This is just my 2 cents on the subject.
I am glad we are working with rice to make it better. Look how Corn and Wheat has come along way over time. I would like to see projects building on Corn and Wheat sometime to make them even better then they are now currently. plus other grains, fruits and veggies. I am all up for those projects and I will run them on my rigs along with all other current and new projects. |

Funny part is, those who are against GM crops don't realize that projects like this actually encourage natural/traditional way of producing better breeds instead of paying heavy sums of money for GM modified seeds. In India, seed companies have to pay hefty royalty fee to BT for brinjal, cotton which reflect in their prices. If some one told the farmers better varieties/ways to cross breed like this project, they will be encouraged to still do it the natural way. Worst part with GM stuff is that once a few states here adopt it, the other states are forced to follow to lower their break even.

How is this GM? As far as I can tell, they are doing an extensive analysis of the Rice Genome. The rice Genome is one of the more complex and least understood.
Hopefully, this better understanding will allow scientists to grow better rice through traditional methods. |
