Dual Core Recognition

I just installed on a new Dell Linux-Ubuntu machine with an Intel Dual Core processor.

In installation went fine. Only the manager shows that it's only working on one work unit, although others are loaded in the queue. My Messages tab shows it finds a 2 Core installation when it starts. But it doesn't start working on two units at a time, like I've seen with other dual processor computers.

Can someone help me get this right? Thanks in advance.

Re: Dual Core Recognition

Hi WilhelmGGW smile

Look in your My Grid>>Device Profiles>>click on your (default, home, work, or school) profile for this machine, and then scroll down to the part that says>>Advanced Options. 4th line down says "on multi processors use at most...put 2 in the box and then scroll all the way down and hit SAVE.

Go to your BOINC manager and in the Projects tab, click on WCG and then hit update (on the left). Your machine will read the change you saved on your My Grid, and it will update you to run 2 cores. Check your Messages and you will see that it has 'updated' your profile and it should start using the other core immediately.

Hope this helps you :)

Diana

Re: Dual Core Recognition

Hello WilhelmGGW,
Also, look at the limits you set for memory, etc. A second work unit will not run if it causes you to exceed your limits.

Re: Dual Core Recognition

Thanks for the help. I got it all set now. My Dell Ubuntu is now crunching away at maximum performance. It's GREAT!
