Hello Lenbee,

We don't support BOINC 6.2 yet. Which means what exactly? - You refuse to help with BOINC 6.2 problems? - WCG applications don't run under BOINC 6.2? (your computer will explode if you do it anyway!) - If you install 6.2, you're a devil worshiper?

It means that alpha testers have to get help directly from BOINC. Anyone not testing, we advise to downgrade to the supported version.
It's just a practical matter - we can't support everyone who wants to try out pre-release software. This is official support only. Unofficially, we will look into any bugs relating to WCG or pass bug reports on to BOINC. |

But the fix for this specific problem is exactly the same in all BOINC versions, be it 4, 5 or 6. Download and overwrite the ca_bundle.crt file and restart BOINC. It's not a BOINC 6 bug, it's the problem with the certificate.
----------------------------------------This thread could've been the new one for the next bunch of people with the same problem, only on BOINC 6. You only had to explain how to do it, but now you scare them into not using BOINC 6 without explaining yourself. Had I not asked the how/what/why, the next person reading this would also be left wondering or scared. Which in my opinion is plain wrong. If all is still going as planned, WCG will adopt BOINC 6 in 2 weeks time. Will you rebuff everyone asking for help until that day's here and point them to the BOINC Dev forums, or be generous and help out with the simple things? It's not as if the question in this thread was how to install BOINC in the first place...

No, they won't. World Community Grid wait some time after an official Berkeley release before adopting it. Can't imagine why :-D
Scaring people away from BOINC 6 doesn't worry me - I don't think it's remotely ready to ship. This particular CA file issue annoys me a lot. Every release, it shows up again. Yes, I'm tired of troubleshooting it and reporting it. Regression testing, people! I hope everybody testing BOINC 6 already knows where to report bugs. Oh, and your solution for the problem at hand doesn't work in many cases. It's not a problem with the certificate, it's a problem with the package. Or BOINC. Either way, as I said, I'm tired of it. There is no excuse for a problem like this to still exist. So, I'm kicking it back to BOINC. Again. |
