478th on the top 500 list of the World's Fastest Super Computers

Busy busy busy today so I'm sorry Folks I have to be brief but I thought you would like this interesting fact - I think it's interesting any way 8-)) . I know that Grid Computing has it's inefficiencies but for sheer raw number crunching potential our team's combined power would rank us at around 478th on the top 500 list of the World's Fastest Super Computers that can be found at www.top500.org - Amazing combined number crunching power - from just 145 of us biggrin

Have a great day

All the best

Dave

p.s. Mobo, Case and Hardrive of new webserver turned up yesterday. It's going to have a Sempron 3000+ in there (£65 inc fan and VAT in the UK - Value for money more Gflops for your £.) I'm coming back at ya, Mr Bell wink - Tell 'em Frans, this Crunching thing is addictive smile

Re: IBM Rochester Team

This team is pretty much a 1 person show. The point leader is Mike Meyers, he as 8 million of the teams 14 million points. This person runs the e-Server competetive benchmark lab at IBM Rochester, MN. As you can see from his profile, he has access to over 350 current technology Server class machines that can run the grid. This is all IBM owned equipment. This is all very good for the Grid as a whole. The only way to compete with that amount of hardware is to recruit 500 more people with PC class machines.

We are finding success through acquiring many low cost Laptops and a couple of number crunchers. There is definelty a price / grid perfromance breakpoint. (Not exaclty sure what that is) We can aquire 3-4 older laptops for less money than 1 high powered PC and get more points.

If you look at the Slash-Dot team, it is the shear volume of members each doing a small amount of work. We are luckly to now have thier highest point person. They are still putting up 4x the number of points per day than the second place team. So goes the power of the grid.

I agree with dtype. If you really want this team to move up, MOT will have to recruit many more members. Perhaps we should have a membership drive. First place, an authographed picture of Graham next to his favorite crucher. (Just a thought) laughing

For now, we will just do our part and help the MOT keep moving up or hold thier position.

We definitely need more peeps on our team. Our scores took a noticable dip with me being down for only one day... and I'm currently investigating an issue that may force me to scale back grid activities to off-hours, unless I can find a solution.
crying
Come on, folks, join up, and help us combat Mike Meyers... we can't do it without you!

Back where we belong wink

Hi Dave,
Yes back where we belong just tucked in the slipstream of IBM Corp. Just wait until the weekend when all those IBM desktops get turned off.

Thanks to all for sticking in there and crunching to the max

Night
Dave
