BOINC won't connect
I'm having problems with BOINC connecting to upload results and get new work. Basically, it won't, either automatically or manually - I have to completely close down BOINC manager and start it up again to get it to communicate at all.

Any ideas? I'm running the latest version of BOINC on a fully updated Vista Home Premium system running on a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop.

Hi David Shaw,
I once had a firewall that would block the DNS handshake with my router. The result was that my internet connection would shut off about 2 or 3 hours after I rebooted.

Please tell us more.

Here's all the messages from my latest run. The first failed communication occurs at 14:09:10

In answer to Lawrence, yes, I have the ZoneAlarm firewall installed - this is set to permit BOINC to communicate and I don't seem to have any problems with other internet applications.

It seems you had a couple of temporary network problems. This isn't a problem for BOINC; the retrys worked perfectly.

If this happens again, wait to see if it resolves before taking any action.

If this happens again, wait to see if it resolves before taking any action.


Thanks for the advice. I asked about it here because the problem had been ongoing since I got this laptop a couple of weeks ago. It does seem to have sorted itself out now, though and if it does rear its ugly head again, I'll check the network.

Have you tried dropping it, I find that always works. LOL
