I would like to process work units on one computer, take the results off of it via something like a file or folder copy, and upload them to the project via a different computer. Is this possible ? Where do I start ?

You need to upload from the same computer as you download and copy back and forth the complete installation to the offline machine for crunching, when BOINC has been exited. Both computers must have a similar CPU and same / similar OS i.e. Windows and Windows.
