Re: May 29, 2008 Status Update

this was a good post, in language that normal people can actually understand. If the time was taken to make a undate like this every month, it would greatly add to the interst in crunching for this project.

Re: May 29, 2008 Status Update

NYU has posted a new status report.

To view it, click on "Human Proteome Folding – Phase 2 status report" in the first paragraph of the HPF2 research page http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/projects_showcase/viewHpf2Research.do and then select the May 29 report.

Regarding the organisms marked as completed in the report, does this mean they think the crunching done has produced the actual structures of the proteins being researched . . . or close to it?

Re: May 29, 2008 Status Update

Hello l_mckeon,
It means that all the proteins selected from analysing the genome have been run through the structure prediction program (Rosetta). We hope that the resulting structure predictions are good enough for later work - identifying networks of interacting proteins, etc.

Incidentally, this project is a bit open-ended. This means that the researchers can keep adding new genomes to analyse if they think some scientists are interested. Discoveries made in the cell of one species will usually have analogues in many other species, so it makes sense to try to involve many groups of scientists with varying research interests.
