I have seen three reports so far.
The more information we have, the better. If you use the Debian BOINC package and haven't had problems, please let us know about that, too. (Don't forget to include the package version.) There seem to be multiple problems, probably related to the recent Debian security hole patching. |

Hi,
----------------------------------------after the Debian SSH/SSL security trouble and their fixes applied, I am experiencing problems validating WCG's SSL-certs using Debian/lenny. Neither am I able to download new WUs nor upload finished ones, with the boinc client giving the messages you can see in the log at the end of the post (Peer certificate cannot be authenticated with known CA certificates). The Debian ca-certificates packages is installed with all certificate authorities accepted. There had been an issue in Ubuntu when the certificates were installed but the resultung /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt file was empty. This is not the case for me, also the file is readable. Hope the report can help solve the problem. I did a little digging but did not come up with any new clues so far. The problems reported in other forums (including Debian bug reports) did not help me in the present case. I will happily provide (or, at least, try to) more information on request. Hi again,
some more information: the trouble reported above is with Debian/lenny, whereas Debian/etch (with the boinc client from backports) works fine. ---VERSIONS(etch)--- boinc-client 5.4.11-4 boinc-manager 5.4.11-4 ca-certificate 20070303 libssl0.9.7 0.9.7k-3.1etch1 libssl0.9.8 0.9.8c-4etch3 ssl-cert 1.0.14 ---/VERSIONS(etch)--- Sadly, I've got one machine with etch installed, the rest sits idle having the lenny trouble. What's more, a good number of already-done WUs is starting to become overdue - this is most unfortunate. Any assistance is appreciated. |

Hi,
I think I've found sort of a "solution" for the problem... Freshly generated /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt files won't work with the boinc client, but old ones do. Using a ca-certificates.crt file which was generated before the recent Debian SSL issues _does_ work, even with the latest openssl libs from the proposed updates and security repos. Alas, this kind of solution might re-introduce the security holes recently "fixed" by Debian... *sigh* |

For some reason i can no longer connect to the local host - had been working fine for a long time. (Mepis (debian) 7.1, BOINC 5.4.11)

I completely removed boinc and re-installed through synaptic and it is working again. I feel the problems might have been more to do with other issues I am having with mepis at the moment, in that I have altered the distribution so that I can run package SK1, however without success. Moral of the story - if it is working, mess with it at your peril.
