Re: BOINC 6

Not too bad is really not good enough, that's for sure.

Stable and Stable are in the beholders eyes. Rumours is somewhere in July and if you want to follow it closely bookmarks the some threads on the Berkeley developers forum. They continue to pump out points releases on the same frequency as sunny days in the UK.

Re: BOINC 6

There are hundreds of outstanding bugs.... I fear that the developers don't plan on addressing any of them.

World Community Grid won't adopt BOINC 6 immediately.

BOINC 6 has almost no new features, anyway. Certainly not any that justify a major release! My advice for now is to stick with 5.10.

Yep. Right now the only reason to go to a version 6 client is if you are having trouble with a vista machine, and stay away from 6.2.5 64bit no matter what OS you have.

Re: BOINC 6

BOINC 5.10.45 installed on Vista to C:\ProgramData\BOINC is rock solid! Anyone going to 6 before the recommended release is announced DOES GET ALL THE BUGS, known and unknown.

Re: BOINC 6

The problem with 5.10.45 on Vista is that it will not auto start without user intervention or disabling one of the security features. Frustrating with new and inexperienced users.

Re: BOINC 6

It does on mine with the service install, even before logging in! Follow recent discussion with Scribe for it to get started even before logging in.

No disabling of any security feature is required to achieve this.

There is such a FAQ for BOINC 6 as well, but that is a work-in-progress. At least it has all the screen grabs as well. But let's not link to it yet, although it is available from the BFS. smile
