No need to hope for we know it has the facility of 'stickies', top and bottom ;>)
----------------------------------------Now, look at the chart again... nearly 16,ooo rice tasks validated this morning... that would make is 31,ooo for the day... not heard anything new, so who knows were these the 19 days PV jailbirds being released. edit: So it was by design, an increase of project share / speed having overcome the storage issue: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=25882

Several days in a row now the Nutritious Rice project is doing > 50 TeraFlops, picking up extra from another slowed down project (FAAH storage problem).

20 million validated results as off last night at an estimated mark of 60% progress.

Will this move the completion date up from Feb 2010? I'm trying to get Saphire and don't want a DDDT type surprise If the pace remains as it is currently, RICE will be the next project to finish, by mid next year. This is simple math - just take Sekerob's chart and the current progress in %, the current runtime and calculate the remaining runtime from these numbers; divide that by the current daily runtime for the project and you get the number of remaining days. But as Sekerob pointed out, there is some serious level of uncertainty: The progress estimation, new projects coming up, people changing focus between projects, changing overall contribution, increasing average computer power. So if you think that the project will keep its focus and believe in more - and more powerful - computers joining the project, you better get your Saphire within the next half year to be on the safe side... A bit more investigation into this (i.e. scanning the forum) brought some more info about the project's stats (and some new questions ):
----------------------------------------We expect "about" 65000 genes Each one is broken into 25 tasks Each tasks gets replicated into 19 WUs This would mean a total of "about" 65000 x 25 x 19 = 30,875,000 WUs to be crunched. Yesterday's status: 20,332,435 results returned This would mean a completion percentage of 20,332,435 / 30,875,000 = 65.85%. Sekerob's chart indicates 60.36%. Where does the difference come from? If we assume the 65.85% would be correct, then we can estimate the end date based on a daily results return rate: Number of results still to be returned: 10,542,565 Yesterday's (relatively high) return rate: 68,099 results If we keep that rate, the end of the project would be reached within 155 days, i.e. early April 2010. Even if we only take the project's average rate of 37,934 results returned per day, it would be July 2010. So I still have problems understanding why it should be March 2011... Regards, Martin |

Huh, what's wrong with the NRW project? Yesterday the number of results returned jumped to 94400, average being 38039. Doing yesterday's math based on that daily rate (sort of a "worst case" for badge hunters ), the end of the project would be within 10,448,037 / 94,400 = 111 days, i.e. mid February 2010. Remember, this is results returned, which means that the last regular WU would be sent out a couple of days earlier...

For one thing you can't take one day result and apply that from this point forward. Also consider that in the last few months WCG closed out 3 projects. So I would assume that our rate for Rice would be higer right now. Those 3 projects will have Phase 2s starting soon. I would expect our daily rate on Rice to drop about that time.
