Hello all,
I have been running two WCG accounts since early last year, one running under my main Linux machine, and the other running under my XP machine. Both machines are identical. Is there any practical reason to point both machines to one WCG account? Many thanks, Mark |

Hello Mark Heseltine,
The reason to run multiple machines under 1 member name is that it is easier to keep track of everything without switching from one member name to the other. However, the way to do this is to reinstall BOINC on one machine, checking the 'existing member' box and entering the other member name. I assume that you are using 2 email addresses. If so, try combining both accounts with one email address first. This may be picked up by pure BOINC sites. Our UD/BOINC website operates a bit differently just now. Lawrence |

Thank you , Lawrence,
I've selected no additional work for the soon to be abandoned siamese child and will reinstall WCG once its work is done. I assume, also, that the points for the abandoned account are lost? Mark |

Hello Mark Heseltine,
Yes, as far as our website is concerned, the points stay with the old member name. But if you change the email address, some BOINC statistics sites might pick up the points for the new email address. It is something that I am uncertain about. Lawrence |

Thanks, Skerob,
I've detached the XP machine from the one account and attached it to the other project successfully. The email addresses for both accounts has always been the same. So, I do not understand how the stats for the abandoned project can be added to the other project. Can this be done? Thanks Mark |

Actually, i realised it wont be possible or difficult because one account has gone inactive, but it could possibly be tricked if you have several devices.
----------------------------------------1. Saw you have only WCG and a heseltine and a mark heseltine suggesting at least 2 devices. 2. On BOINC stats you show with same 2 and both accounts presently have a different CPID for which a way needs to be found to make it converge. Do you remember which of the 2 was first created, because the timestamp is important.... with equal email accounts the oldest created is the one used for convergence. Need to think about this or somebody else has already done this before. Maybe if WCG admin is willing to inject the same CPID into the idle account, will it do the trick. ttyl (Was down here for 5 hours so don't expect a quick conversation)

Hello, Sekerob,
Well, to your post I have two answers. The good news is I've been a member of WCG since 5th March 2007. The bad news is that I joined both machines at the same time. In law there is a rule that if both hubbie and wife die at the same time, the younger is deemed to have died last. And the older is deemed to have died first. In this case, it is the wife (or was it the hubbie) that died first but I cannot honestly say who was older. Hummmm. So, it is not possible to say which of the two accounts was created first. Blast it. I suspect that I created 'heseltine' first and 'mark heseltine' second. It is just a hunch. I have a bad case of 'forgetful' memory. Accordingly, I suspect it is in the hands of the WGC gods to decide whether the points are transferable. Kind regards, Mark |

Sorry, Mark. There is no way to transfer your points.
Sekerob is talking about 3rd party sites, and I think there are technical reasons making his suggestion impossible. |

The bad news is that I joined both machines at the same time. At the same time is something seldom reachable for computers. ![]() So, it is not possible to say which of the two accounts was created first. Blast it. If it is really important for you look at "Boinc Account Number" in the "My Profile" page of each of the member ids. Unless the computers were more unsettled on that day than they were these last days the smaller Boinc Account Number is the older.I suspect that I created 'heseltine' first and 'mark heseltine' second. It is just a hunch. Now you know how to see how far you can trust your memory. ![]() Cheers. Jean. |
