Re: Website down -> missing dealine!

<Boy, I had a dickens of a time logging in to the forums.>

From Long Outage - the 3rd post, posted on May 9th at 4:03pm CDT

The BOINC clients should be able to upload and download work easily at this time.

What about those of us who are still using the Agent?

(Yes, I use both BOINC during the week and the Agent on the weekends. Before you say anything, I know that the Agent's time is numbered... the end of the month, if my memory is correct.)

So, again, will the Agent be able to connect?

Re: Website down -> missing dealine!

The UD agent should not have been impacted by this outage.

Re: Website down -> missing dealine!

Hmmm
There are general communication between us folks and the WCG.... Have confirmed this with some folks at team andrax...
Connectivity is very slow, while I can fly around the rest of the internet. At times, the forum pages freeze too, and I get timeout messages from Firefox. This is in addition to earlier agent/ WCG comm probs, which seem to alleviated... crying cool

applause Re: Website down -> missing dealine!

Just put one device on-line and by itself it started uploading & downloading results and cleared the 'Ready to Report'.... it's slow but the world is pushing 'spose.

Must be getting close to dawn for the crew, so wish them luck it stays up from now on.

[Added: quick check on the Result Status page shows all received in good order with lots pending, but that is logical....Spock-Out]

Re: Website down -> missing dealine!

Just happenned again! I couldn't change pages, or even log out! Knreed, u mentioned cache issues in regard to the probs earlier... Has the same feel, though this server is certainly different than the agent server. Maybe isolate the servers from the web, and test the coom stuff...I think we can make it by, as long as we know it's being worked! biggrin cool

Re: Website down -> missing dealine!

Reading Kevins message indicates everything is back up, but the Boinc grid side is still down my end - I still can't upload/receive work.

We just experienced a 6 hour outage on the website and BOINC grid. It appears that we are up again but we are still investigating what happened.

You know where to find steady work biggrin

Re: Website down -> missing dealine!

Hello Knreed,
Thanks for updating the Long Outage thread.
It is good to see some information when Boinc doesn't upload or download Wu's.
Good luck solving the problems.

Re: Website down -> missing dealine!

Hi,

Sorry about this. There a message from knreed about this outage.

Don't worry, all were hit and long as you report it ASAP, it will be validated and credited. In past the tech suspended the work reissue for 'no reply' / 'too late' jobs in these situations.

Generally BOINC tries to complete work 24 hours before due date, so I presume this was rush/repair work that with a short deadline.

If these were normal jobs, I suggest to reduce your buffer size / connect interval. The shortest deadline project has 10 days.

If a part time cruncher, you can switch to the longer deadline jobs to avoid these conditions. There is a selection of 10, 14 and 20 days.

ttyl

thanks

Thanks for the information!

P.S. I cannot let world community run over weekends or when I am gone since the science apps do not quit properly and therefore keep my computer from shutting down (it is set to automatically boot at 6 a.m. and shut down at 7 p.m., even during weekends or when I am on business trips). All other projects (e.g. SETI@Home, Einstein@Home, Rosetta@Home, Milkyway@Home, etc) do quit properly.

You could set BOINC to crunch a scheduled time shorter than your auto-boot times for instance from 06:15 to 18:45. Do not set Leave in Memory, so BOINC will unload the sciences to disk if paused.

What OS is this? Even a hard boot should resume the work from the last checkpoint like any other project including WCG.

Let us know and we try working to see if the problem can be resolved.

Thanks sekerob! I will try this on Tuesday and will report back. My OS is Mac OS X 10.5.2 on a brand new MacPro Octo-3 GHz.
