broadband connection

Hi All,
Probably not a problem with BOINC itself, but I've got a problem trying to connect it on one of my PC's to WCG on my broadband, it works ok on Dial up. it won't download tasks or even post this (i'm doing this post on my work machine that uses the works IBM connection over the same ADSL router)

this is the log

Re: broadband connection

Hi,

all this stuff has appeared before in the proxy connection thread, so venture that you got one on your broadband and not on your dial-up?

If you entered 129.33.89.133 IP, try 129.33.89.134

More discussion on your last message is here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=17034

There was no final answer on whether router/firewall booting did the trick.

Sorry, but little time this moment to dig further.

ciao

Re: broadband connection

Hello tony_vx,
Somebody is probably about to post a complete solution, but . . . not me. (sigh. . .)
What security software (firewall) are you running on your computer? Have you checked to see if it is blocking ports 443 or 80?

Lawrence

Re: broadband connection

Thanks Both for the replies and pointers,

I've been through the 2 long threads, and checked everything I can think of. I'll see what happens overnight when it should finish it's current task.

btw I'm using the windows firewall and symantic internet security

Re: broadband connection

Still not up/downloaded on the ADSL, so I'm going to give up on my 2 home machines, as I'm in great danger of upsetting them. Not a good plan to start fiddling with security setting that you don't understand.

The work PC seems to be running OK. so at least the WCG will have that.

Thanks for your help and suggestions

Re: broadband connection

Remember that the A in ADSL means asymmetric. That means that downloads are fast and uploads are slow, rather like a cable modem.

ADSL is one of those things that either always works, or never works. There's not much in between.

Re: broadband connection

Hi Retsof,

I dispute that, the broadband is working for everything else but WCG, it even works for other tasks in the BOINC application.

the WCG bit does not recognise that there is an always connected internet connection.

Re: broadband connection

Maybe if you clear the connection default in BOINC options and Tell your Web browser not to dial i.e. a permanent internet connection (Mine says it has a Broadband connection), the problem will disappear.

It's though strange. The log tells that it finds google and sets up the ssl secure connection. Your Firewall is maybe blocking port 443 traffic which WCG needs to connect from client to server. The help explains more about your Symantec firewall: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=netconn
