But they keep beer cheap to keep us pacified. ![]() ![]() |

As a quick summary, MOT exists at the following projects: climateprediction.net Cosmology@Home Einstein@Home Lattice Project Malariacontrol.net Milkyway@Home Poem@Home Project TANPAKU Proteins@Home QMC@Home Rosetta@Home SETI@Home Simap Spinhenge@Hone WorldCommunityGrid I don't intend for us to be everywhere and there is a bit of a method to the madness. If you want to crunch at more projects besides WCG, you can do that and be a part of MOT at all of them. Check it out here BOINC is the future ... ![]() ![]() |

So, i am going to ask a newbie question, even though I am old, but I have been away for a long time, and to ask in the tech forum would inevitably lead to jibs and jabs :) So, I came back because I got a new Apple iMac,
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz Number Of Processors: 1 Total Number Of Cores:2 L2 Cache: 4 MB Memory: 3 GB Bus Speed: 800 MHz Memory: 3 GB I run WCG on BOINC @100% when i am not using my system. When I was last an active member on windows on a much older system, running at 100% caused me major problems, now it seems consensus on BOINC w/ a Mac is 100% should be just fine. Do you all agree? Just want to make sure I can both contribute, and not have any system failures like in the past. Happy Crunching!!!! |

Use a utility like Speedfan to keep track of temperatures. If it gets hot, you can step down the processor utilization in BOINC (Advanced tab, then Preferences) until you get the temp you want. Thanks again for coming back and ... as always ... crunch on!!! ![]() ![]() |

Dataman--been sick here for three weeks watching all the bad news i hope you are safe from the fires Sorry to hear you've been ill, Gerald. Mono? At your age? How many young women have you been hanging around? I hope you and Dave get better soon. The big fires are about 90 miles NNW of me. But we have already had several small brush fires in my area. Thursday the humidity got down to a low of 9%. Even the granite rock starts to sweat!! But there is nothing much I can do but keep the ground clear around the property and tree limbs cut up high. You get better now, you hear?! ![]() ![]() |

I've always had it at 100%. Your C2D is a hair faster than my C2Ds and has more memory. Unless you're running something extremely intense like CAD programs or the latest high end games, should have nothing to worry about. |

Just some words of caution: Since that's an Apple. And Apple's are expensive. WCG runs your CPU at 100% load. That decreases the lifespan of your E6600 CPU chip drastically by a few years. Don't know how long you want it to last though. :P Also since summer time is here. Keep that chip under 55 C for safe measures. 60.1 C is max temperature. Crunch on! |
