Re: Boinc as a service

BOINC isn't smart enough to know whether your computer is part of a domain or not.

You don't need to restart your computer; you can control the service with the service control panel. Sorry, I don't follow what you are trying to do with passwords.

Re: Boinc as a service

I was experimenting to see what happens when the password is changed. It appears that if you do that, then next time the PC is re-started the service is not started and Boinc does not run....surely this is incorrect?

Re: Boinc as a service

Start services.msc (admin function) and find the BOINC.exe line. Right click properties. Go to Connect tab and change the option to Local SystemAccount. Try this and see if password changing allows it to start after booting.

Re: Boinc as a service

I see. Your problems are related. When you change the password for a service account, you need to change the password under the service control panel, too. I.e. Windows needs to know what password to use when starting the service.

You will find the control panel under Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services.

Re: Boinc as a service

Yup, setting it to Local System account works perfectly....it allows a passord change and/or removal of the password entirely and boinc is started each time. Thanks guys.... biggrin
