There are two problem on FreeBSD

Hi friends,

I have two problem on my FreeBSD Boinc Agent.

The first is faah applications are always hunging up at 100% complited task and don't use cpu resurses according output of top command.
After all they send result to server but would like to use my CPU fully.

The second Help Conquer Cancer never gets valid result status only Error.

Please help to identify the problems.

Thank in advance,
Maxim.

Re: There are two problem on FreeBSD

Hi,

the only HCC you could have received on your FreeBSD (using Linux identifier) were BETA jobs, RIGHT? If you have details, please report in BETA forum.

For FAAH, Does that mean that in the BOINCmgr Tasks tab they show as 'Running' or Ready To Report with 100% complete?

Re: There are two problem on FreeBSD

Ok I'll send it to BETA forum.

FAAH and DDDT show as `Running' not `Ready to report`.
So What can I do in this case?

Re: There are two problem on FreeBSD

Try shutting down BOINC and restart or boot (I know lunix lovers hate that). A few reports are there where somehow the science does not close properly. There are new BETA's in preparation for FAAH & DDDT using new BOINC API, so possible your BOINC (what version (?) has an issue with it. Never see hanging jobs on windows (something positive for a change about Woz).

Another trick is suspending WCG completely in the Project tab of BOINCmgr and waiting a little before resume. That sometimes works too.

Re: There are two problem on FreeBSD

I tried shutting down and restart, suspending and resume but it doesn't affect.
I'm using Boinc-5.10.32.
Any other ideas ?

Re: There are two problem on FreeBSD

I have similar problems with MirBSD:

- SZTAKI is hanging at 100% finished, 0% CPU usage
⇒ suspending and (hours) later resuming helps, the finished
number goes down to 0% and goes up again (I wonder if
it’s just its estimate that sucks)

- DDDT crashes at 99.4% or so
⇒ syslog shows that it gets SIGILL (signal 4: Illegal Instruction)
so it probably tries to use some CPU instruction which my
(and your?) CPU doesn’t have

Note that both seem to work in the Linuxulator otherwise.
And mine is less capable than FreeBSD’s.

Re: There are two problem on FreeBSD

So, I suppose in that case somebody has to pass the problems to development team as it's in scope of their responsibility, isn't it?

Re: There are two problem on FreeBSD

I now installed my BOINC port on MidnightBSD (FreeBSD 6 based),
and result X0000044570310200501142141_ 0-- also got SIGILL.

My DDDT workunit on MirBSD is still crunching (the laptop is slower
than the 4-core server).

I cannot always test on MidnightBSD though, just one or two WUs
when asked for, as that server is not mine, I just may use it.
