In the past, when I made changes to a device profile and then did a boinc_cmd update on the client, the server would realise that the device profile had changed and download the changes to the client. Now, it just sits and uses the old profile information until some seemingly random time later. Does anyone know what's happened?

No idea and understand from your post that eventually they do come across. The time of the last website profile change fetched is reported in 5.10.45, which is 1.1.1970 if never changed. I tested the behaviour a couple of times these weeks, but each time a real change was applied, the save was made on the website and with operation of the "Update" button, a line would show in the message log to confirm it was copied to the client.

I have not had any problem either and I was making changes very frequently up until last week whilst trying to get ACH workunits. Note that the server does not initiate contact with the clients; the new profile is downloaded only when the client establishes contact. I was able to get the new profile by clicking update on the client immediately after clicking save on the server.

This is related to the same problem that was causing people to get the message that they had an invalid authenticator. The server that processed the preferences updates and device venue changes got hung up and didn't process any results for 1.5 days (there are two that are load balanced so if you went back and tried to force it again you had a 50% chance of getting it through).
We will be figuring out why the monitoring that was in place wasn't working so that if this happens again it will only take a short while to get resolved. We apologize for the problems. |

I was making changes very frequently up until last week whilst trying to get ACH workunits. That's exactly what I was doing. I'd leave my profiles on AC@H only, then, when a machine ran out of work, I'd manually update the profile to allow other WUs, boinc_cmd update, let it get work, update the profile back to AC@H only, boinc_cmd update. Of course, when it stops updating, that means no work at all, and the exponential drop-off when you get no work means that the client stops asking for hours unless forced manually. |

The quick fix would have been to switch to a different venue, but that may have been impacted too during that particular server outage.
----------------------------------------Am keeping a customized 'Standard Profile' attached to 'Default' with some tweaks for the sanity check. Stops the need to alter profiles and the set, except for project choices, is already on the machine. Found this needing least steps when flopping around.
