I installed Boinc yesterday. Since than it is in the status "waiting to contact project server". What I've to do?

For starters, look at Start Here, such as http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=16798 What happened when you selected 'Attach to project'? What OS are you running? What security software? Lawrence |

Hi,
----------------------------------------"waiting to contact project servers" in the plural is discussed most recently here and is indeed probably because BOINC has not been attached to any project server. This is obvious if going to the BOINC Manager Advanced View (If in Simple View, the button is right bottom), go to the Projects Tab and see if WCG is listed. If not, select the "advanced" menu and "attach to project" at bottom of menu. Select WCG from the drop down list. ttyl

Hi,
WCG is listed, but when I hit the update button this is the status: "Scheduler request pending, Requested by user, Communication deferre 23:54:...". I use WinXp and symantec firewall tx |

okay, in that same project tab, select WCG and hit project Reset. Exit/Restart BOINC and visit the Message tab and post us all the lines (select and copy messages button, left margin).

Looks healthy enough. Presume you tried hitting the Update button again.... still counting? The message tab should now list us an actual attempt to fetch or not fetch work in the message tab. Please post those messages.
----------------------------------------Also, visit My Grid > Device Manager > Device Profiles > Default > Custom options and tell us what WCG projects are listed. Select All Projects and save and hit Update again in BOINC manager. Is your BOINC the WCG package from the download page? Symantec Firewall: Did you permit BOINC to communicate outwards thru port 80 and 443? [Edit: And finally, go to projects tab, select WCG, operate "Detach" button, go to Advanced menu, "Attach to project" and select WCG from the list. Tick the existing member box (may not show), ok if yes, and enter member name/password]

yes, still counting, no new message.

The My Grid (button) entrance is is at the top of every WCG website page
----------------------------------------The temp.unavail is because the stats update were running. They just finished, so it should work now. I don't know Symantic firewall and how configure that, but possibly once the project is re-attached you will get a pop-up screen. Most firewalls 'learn' from user activity.
