Good news: my quad is up and running full time now. Interestingly it is so much quieter than my old 3.6 ghz.

Bad news: my alienware is down for the summer. It produces way too much heat.

I'm getting ready to paint. Half the machines are down as you can see from my results. Also trying (unscientifically) to do some heat benchmarks to see how many (if any) I can run this summer.

Hey dataman, have you ever thought of liquid cooling? Apparently that is a way to keep your CPU cold while not heating your house in the process. Also, my thermaltake V1 heatsink fan combo does a fantastic job of keeping my CPU at 27C even under full load while not overheating my room. Have you thought about getting one of these? They're about 40 bucks, but they're huge and might not fit in a small case.

The probem is not really the machines. I use big @$$ high-volume fans to move the heat from the racks. The problem is I can't get it out of the house. My AC is a heat pump and it is useless when the temp is above 95F (although it consumes massive amounts of electricity sad ). When it's 105-8F outside, there is nowhere to vent the 95F inside. temp. Some laws of thermodynamics just can't be broken. biggrin Believe me I tried everything I could think of last summer. cool
