Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 25 smilesmile

Glad to see you are feeling better. biggrin

Not better by a long shot. Leg still looking like a mess and I am supposed to keep it elevated. It does look a bit better, but I think it is gonna take another 3 weeks or so.

Me too!! Vista is reporting that one of my quads HD is about to fail. sad Had to shut it down. Guess I wll be going down the hill for a new drive tomorrow. I've done drive-to-drive copies in XP before but never VISTA and of course my utility does not work on VISTA. crying I found CloneMax (shareware) that looks like it will work. It's command level based but I can't afford to shell out money for a Windows based version.

If you listen carefull tomorrow toward the East, you will probably hear me screaming words my mama didn't teach me. laughing biggrin

Don't listen to Vista about your HDD failing.. Check the SMART readings. That'll tell you more about your HDD.

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 25 smilesmile

S.M.A.R.T. indicated the Maxtor drive on one of my older crunchers was failing. Since it's just a cruncher and nothing else, I copied the BOINC folder onto a 2 gig USB drive and it's been working ever since.

That was two years ago.

The machine stays on 24/7 so actual hard drive accessing is minimal after initial bootup and Windows loading. Most of the action is to the USB drive. Who knows how long the system will run this way, but it's added some life expectancy to the HD.

Had a drive "on it's way out" since 2004.

Has been utilised in 3 different rigs since.

An old WD 40gb.
