Re: Stalled/stuck DDDT work units running Linux

What is ideal for support is to have all who can to move to one version base, particular if pestered by elusive issues.

Not sure how long you have been running BOINC personally, but to "Stay up to date" with each new BOINC Client can be trying, especially if you like many of us are running both Linux and Windows machines. As a BOINC Alpha tester myself, it is my understanding of things there that each and every client version is tested for error first, before it has been released and validated as the new official client. So seeing as how the 5.10.28 Linux version was the stable one for awhile, to assume that users who get an error at one particular project (Who in this case runs a variety of different jobs), should assume its the clients error and thus go update it first is kinda sad. I have run this version of Linux on my newer pc for awhile now, running 32bit only and have not run into this error anywhere else but here, and on DDDT. Of course it seemed the first possible reason of the problem was thought to being my Pc with either a lack of Disk Space, and or Memory which also as I mentioned earlier, wasn't the case.

Is it possible that the new version of BOINC can and or does fix this issue ? Of course, but I still would not agree that its a client side only issue if it only happens here, seems to me that would indicate a problem in some part with the program here as well, but thats just my opinion right or wrong.

Don't use the simple view and avoid the graphics might make this issue stay away.

I didn't, and I wasn't when I had the error. Perhaps a list is in order of what not to do when running a project here if this is the possible causes and or remedies ? smile

Re: Stalled/stuck DDDT work units running Linux

Given the versions that had the reported occurrence *on multiple DC projects*, the proposal to upgrade and see if it persists is what i can offer momentarily. Version 6 of BOINC will have a substantial chance to the whole graphics / science connection, so am looking forward. Saw that Einstein already is forced to redo their science apps for Linux and Mac given the crashing when testing under 6.1.x

Version 6 will be nice, but will also come with many headaches for awhile. But with progress come rewards and the need for aspirin. smile

Re: Stalled/stuck DDDT work units running Linux

Hello all interested in crunching DDD-T,
I few days ago I did a update of the Boinc-client from 5.10.8 to 5.10.45. on my Ubuntu 7.10.
The update went flawless and the workunits are crunching great.
However, yesterday started crunching a DDD-T Wu, which got stalled at 66.77 % done CPU=0 %.
As mentioned before, I only used the “advanced” window.
After a reboot the WU finished without problems.
The results-log first reads:
freeglut ERROR: Function <glutTimerFunc> called without first calling 'glutInit'.
And a moment later:
*** glibc detected *** wcg_dddt_autodock_5.15_i686-pc-linux-gnu: double free or corruption (!prev): 0x0d021c68 ***
I'm afraid I have to opt out the DDD-T workunits again. Hopefully the next generation of Wu's will do a better job on Linux.

Have a nice day,
Path7.

Re: Stalled/stuck DDDT work units running Linux

Have seen a few of that particular error in the last week, but not heard of a cause.

Beta's are in preparation for DDDT & FAAH to use new libs/api and other features needed for the BOINC 6 release and keep them backward compatible for BOINC 5.xx. Please if you will would you sign up to test these on Linux. That will greatly assist in finding if the problem persists. The base 5.10.45 client is good as a reference for WCG. The Beta signup can be done here: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewBetaProfiles.do

thanks in advance for helping testing.

Re: Stalled/stuck DDDT work units running Linux

Hello Sekerob,
Thanks for your reply. I have signed up for the Beta tests right now.
I'm interested how these new Wu's will run (on Linux).

Ciao,
Path7.

If you want to stay on the ball, sign up in your forum profile to get notified of BETA news: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/mywatch . Add the BETA forum (read only and BETA discussion) to the My Watch section. When they come you can push to get them by flushing your cache, change the profile to only fetch AC@H and beta. That should set you up when the tests come out.

Re: Stalled/stuck DDDT work units running Linux

Me to...

Ubuntu 7.10 and BOINC 5.10.45

Work unit got to 66.555% and just stopped. Shutting down and restarting the core got it going again without any, apparent, problem.

Ian

Add my machine to list. Same problem 5.10.28 / 5.10.45 Ubuntu 7.10
