Hi all,
Does anybody when HPF2 checkpoints stuff? Most of the other projects which I have checkpoint stuff after 10 mins, 30 mins or an hour. Just curious. |

Hello shirish,
Here is the check point post in Start Here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=11332 HPF2 graphics shows the check point. When the green line suddenly starts over again from the origin, a check point has just been written. Lawrence |

Sorry, Lawrence,
but on BOINC HPF2 there are no graphs where an indication for checkpoints can be derived from. This applies to UD only. BOINC HPF2 graphics show only numbers in that place. The thing with the green line was FAAH anyway. For BOINC the best method to get an indication for checkpoints is to turn on checkpoint_debug as described in the link you provided. Indeed, HPF2 on BOINC only has the 3 blobs with statistical info on the science progress. The non graphic crunchers can check in the samples provided in that FAQ.
----------------------------------------The checkpoint logging is particularly helpful for those that run BOINC as a service which until BOINC 6 comes out, has no graphics functions at all. A few changes were proposed for a future release like an optional 'beep' for alert and also the automatic shutdown to permit a PC to close using the power saving options. There is already an option to let BOINC go to sleep after X minutes of non-use of keyboard and mouse. There's i think even a request to close the client if the last or current job is finished. All discussed in "BOINC the future" threads. ttyl

Hello Sekerob, it is possible to get graphics with service install. I think I remember a description here in the forums how to do it, but I also think to remember that some users had problems with that configuration and therefor the reason not to recommend it further. (Can't find the references) Keypoint to make graphics work is: To allow interaction with the desktop (setting for the service) and to run the service with builtin account (SYSTEM for WXP and W2K, NETWORK SERVICE for W2K3). These changes must be made manually after installation. At least my 4 machines (all WinXP pro) work well with service AND graphics. Greetings Thorsten |

Yes there is a way to get graphics with service as you seemingly managed to apply. The words that went with it were maybe that the security level is a bit lowered.... think it was Keck_Computers or JmBoullier that posted the link to the instructions, so find their posts with keywords like 'workaround' or 'service', but the main aim from recollection was to also get the screensaver password to work *with* graphics.

Save time for searches: don't try with my name!
---------------------------------------- I almost never use the graphics and I would have also said "no graphics" with the service install of Boinc under the current release. "Almost never" means I usually run them once for a new project to see what they look like. Next I stay away and save those cycles. Cheers. Jean. |
