cookiemobsta,
----------------------------------------I can confirm that you should not lose any data by suspending Boinc, closing it, and later re-activating it, where all of this is done on XP. Tonight, in short, I suspended boinc, copied the directory to a DVD, formatted the hard drive, reinstalled XP, downloaded WCG's boinc, took XP and boinc off line, copied over the saved verions of boinc on top of the installed BOINC directory (all from my DVD), and restarted Boinc. It worked. You should never have a problem with shutting down and restarting boinc. I agree with Didactylos, if you find boinc losing data as the result of a restart of XP (I can't speak for the horrid Vista), then let the WCG group know, as it may reflect a bug in the software. Hope this helps. Mark [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 3, 2008 5:34:47 AM] |

I asked (earlier in this thread) because, regardless of how I close before rebooting--suspend, snooze or exit--BOINC always comes back indicating a few % less done than at closing (about 5% yesterday). Been that way on all versions (currently 5.10.30) since joining 10 months ago with this ThinkPad T40 running XP SP2.
Hasn't been much of a concern, though, since there've been no other problems worth mentioning. Thanks |

Read the Start Here FAQ on topic of Checkpoints, the logging and deciding when to shut down is the advise. Think Didactylos already provided the link in this thread.
