Im doing a bit of lurking here and there. I heard there might be some covoid crunching soon which really caught my eye.
Ive been looking to put some money on the side and set up a dedicated cruncher, but I sometimes fire up my main rig. I just dont want to wear out the pumps prematurely ^_^

Im doing a bit of lurking here and there. I heard there might be some covoid crunching soon which really caught my eye.
Ive been looking to put some money on the side and set up a dedicated cruncher, but I sometimes fire up my main rig. I just dont want to wear out the pumps prematurely ^_^

It's all good, Zephyrspark. FWIW, my two desktop PCs running Win 10 are water cooled and they run 24/7 without issues.

Btw how is sigma calculated?


It looks like the whale on our team, anhhai, is either having server issues and/or is allocating fewer resources to WCG jobs, which is why our numbers were significantly lower yesterday and, based on the most recent update, will be low today as well.

I calculate sigma by normalizing the last 60 days of raw data via (x_i - ave last 60 days) / (stdev of last 60 days). This process turns the 60 raw scores into 60 normalized scores with an overall mean of 0 and stdev of 1. I then just read off the most recent value, e.g. -2.23 sigma for yesterday's points, -1.67 sigma for yesterday's results, etc.

Assuming the data is normally distributed, 68% falls within 1 sigma, 95% within 2 sigma and 97% within 3 sigma.

So our -2 sigma results from yesterday were large deviations because over 95% of the data in the last 60 days was larger.

Looking at my midday results this morning, the # of WUs returned is taking a huge hit with the completion of SCC1 . . . I'm going to miss those sub 1hr WUs.
