I think someone has been crunching for me too! mahthildis, yes, it was for points. Sorry. @ Eric Well, we all crunch when we can. I mean, we are all volunteers here and I think we all do a great job. Sometimes I think that I post too much about stats; the one thing we all want is a cure or an important solution that will benefit so many others. The stats is fun stuff but if a Cure can be found, we will all be proud that we hand a 'hand' in doing this here. Several minutes ago, I noticed that FREE-DC Stats have not been updated lately. So what. There are far more important things going on in our real lives. Need to run now. If anyone has time to list any stats, well you are ALL Co-Captains here.  |

Additionally I have to quit most of my rented servers end of october. Your money and your choice my friend, living is expensive and it comes down to priorities, would it be rude to ask what you were paying and what kind of performance it was giving?. Totally understand if you'd rather not divulge it's just i've been thinking of renting some servers and am curious as to if it's good value or not - I really can't bring any more machines into the house, certain unmentionable parts of my anatomy would be in danger. That said I do have a sneaky plan to put 4 6700k micro atx boards into one old large scruffy case and swear blind it's some old hardware that came from work [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 29, 2016 6:15:32 PM] |

Paul, my friend, you are welcome to ask about the server costs.
----------------------------------------I've rented all seven servers from the same hoster hetzner. They have a page with server auctions. Right now I run six i7-980x and one i7-990x. All came with 24 GB RAM and harddisc varies between 2 and 4 TB in total. The cpu have 6 cores plus hyperthreading. The servers cost between 35€ and 42€ each per month (total 266€/month). The performance is comparable and close to the i7-3930 I own. Right now they offer a couple of i7-990x for 35€/month. If I think about the power consumption at home (i7-3930k, 2xamd, plus androids and switch) I have to pay ~100€ month for electricity. I think I will keep at least one server. Hard decision... |
