Hi Johnny, i have also 4 Gig. What kind of problems occur on your machine? Thomas, I have no problems and I am just crunching SN2S for now but I want to try those CFSW work units. I think I will give it a go very soon! Thank you! ![]() You're welcome! CFSW will end in about 40 days, that's why i switched everything over to it, to reach gold: CFSW nearing completion Thomas, 40 days? Hmmm ... Oh well, I can still get a Badge for that. I just checked CFSW as my only project for now. I must continue the SN2S work units that I have in my cache. That way, I won't be 'penalized' for dumping them. Aloha, Co-Captains (fellow Team Mates)! Silver now in CFSW, that's half the battle ![]() Congratulations, Thomas! For some reason, the CFSW takes a *lot* of resources on my quad core. I'll simply montor it a little longer. Congratz Tommunich!!
----------------------------------------JC, it is probably a memory issue. Click on one of the finish CFSW WU and see what is the elapse time and the CPU time. If the time difference is considerable, you may want to limit how many of those WU run at the same time. On my system that can run 16 WU at time, I limit the memory usage so only 8 CFSW WU run at a time ![]() |

Thanks Anhhai, maybe i will make it to gold before the project ends.
I am a little confused about this RAM-issue. I allow to use 100% of everyting, and don't have any problems at all. Perhaps phase 2 will run better. |

Tommunich, that just means that you have more then enough memory for the number of WUs that are being crunched. Some of my PCs can crunch 16 WU at a time, and each WU takes over 300k of memory (virtual and physical) to perform correctly. So thats a lot of memory. By limiting the amount of memory WCG can use, we can limit how memory is being used. This can be helpful because if the PC is using a lot of memory, it will use a lot of virtual memory (which is really the harddrive) and virtually memory is very slow compare to physical memory. This reduces the effectiveness of your PC

I thought I had an answer for that because I thought I had ample memory: Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 4.00 GB Total Physical Memory 3.99 GB Available Physical Memory 2.85 GB Total Virtual Memory 7.98 GB Available Virtual Memory 6.70 GB Page File Space 3.99 GB Page File C:\pagefile.sys anhhai, should I be limiting the amount of memory being used for CSFW (which I stopped crunching for until I check a few things. ![]() That's is what bothered me. Maybe it shouldn't, but this is not a drone cruchimg machine, this is my only work computer. I guess the 'problem' I had was just concern for the memory being used. With just crunching for CFSW, Task Manager was reporting that I was using 3.01 GIGS of memory (which supports your each WU takes over 300k of memory (virtual and physical) to perform correctly ). Still, that seemed kind of high. I rember that Ray said that one of his rigs had noo problem running those CFSW becuase it had 12 (!) GIGS of memory. Other than that, I was consistently crunching these at about 56 minutes each ... Still, that seemed kind of high. I remember that Ray said that one of his rigs had no problem running those CFSW because it had 12 (!) GIGS of memory. Yes, I did say that and upgraded the RAM from 4 to 12 gigs (2x2 and 4x4 ram configuration) to accommodate this project. Since then the computer runs fine and no other issues resulted. Before that, a "waiting for RAM" error message would occur. Nothing like trying to use a non-responsive computer with that error message occurring. |
