Ray , thanks for the info on Linux to any PC. It's a major hassle to re-install every time you get a new rig. Seriously, I may go that route. Which version of Linux? I guess my PC software will not be compatible under Linux (well some maybe)? I really like the idea about Linux. Well, better late than never. Gotta think about that to be sure. Thanks! JC, Here are two good Linux sites where you can download the OS: Debian: http://www.debian.org/ Ubuntu: http://www.ubuntu.com/ I use Unbuntu, and the OS comes with Openoffice.org software along with other very useful applications, and has no "bloat ware." PC applications cannot run on Linux, however I believe the WineHQ project software emulation attempts to address this issue. I have no idea how the software emulation would work when the motherboard is changed. If you want additional information about how to go about this process and how best to migrate over to Linux, let me know. Ray Ray, I will check them all out. Because of all the software that I have purchased, I'll have to be very careful. And thanks for those links. congratz Thomas and Johnny on your sapphires, I am waiting on my sapphire for DSFL, it will probably be just a few more days. I am currently focus on HCC and CEP2, so that why it is taking so long. My goal is 100 yrs on HCC, should reach it before the deadline with plenty of days to spare

From: BOINC: Overclockers Beware!
Whilst there's in principle nothing wrong with overclocking the CPU and other parts of a computer to get more work done, it is the overclocker that has to be aware that the science applications are not equally susceptible to the very exact timing of the different system components, e.g. the data exchange between the CPU and the cache, RAM, and virtual memory. In a recent case members were incurring a error -195 on the Drug Search for Leishmaniasis (DSFL), and one member discovered [visit this post] and thanked for sharing this finding, that when setting the CPU back to stock / manufacturer default, the results came out perfectly. This may not be the complete answer to a frequent science specific failure, but it serves to be aware if suddenly that *rock solid* host starts producing bad results. Something could be off or burned. The hotter it gets (and over-clocking does add), the more chance arises that electrons will start to move in unpredictable ways, unimpeded cooling critical, to include that hosts running 24/7 do get their frequent cleaning service on filters, fans, cooling elements and motherboard, in short the whole system. Careful and thoughtful, not using a broom, but a fine painters brush on the delicate electronics, making sure to be statically isolated as when charged, that can damage the microchips. Instructions easily found on the Internet will help to lead the way, reading the friendly manual before being the best advise for the not so experienced in this field. Related Topics: TThrottle, automated temperature regulated processing control of BOINC on Windows. I had two systems that went from "rock solid" to "unstable" when I tested overclocking. It did work, but over time WU results became a problem with one computer eventually being only able to satisfactorily compute three projects (CEP2, HPF2, and CMD2). Other projects started to produced invalid or error results. That is the computer that was recently upgraded to a 2600k processor.
