Thanks, Raymond, that was the solution! The Problem was that i didn't know that i had to maximize the Window of the BOINC Manager to see the menubar  Thomas, now you are set! There are now *27,398* Teams at the WCG. Our Team was 42nd in Total Run Time, 41st in Points Generated and 36th in Results Returned at last evening's update. Quick Survey: Who spent their Friday night upgrading a computer? I now have a i7 2600k chip crunching away. I think that I won't be that far away from an upgrade. Ray, is it an 'All-n-One' or a desktop. I wondered if an 'All-in-One' could handle the hear (not sure that it could.). I really don't know. Still, great upgrade!! . JC, Thanks!! Except for Macs, I build my own computers as I am better at supporting PC's (or in this case Linux) than Dell or some other mass producer of computer boxes. Micro Center had a sale on combo motherboards and CPU deals that was just to good to pass up so I upgraded from a Q9650 CPU to a Core i7 2600k. A fantastic feature about Linux and Macs is the physical hard drive can be transferred from one computer to another (with completely different motherboards) without incident or any need to re-install the OS or applications. This does not mean you can put a Linux hard drive into a Mac and visa versa. Mac to Mac and Linux to any PC compatible system but not a Mac. Try that with Windows and good luck!!! Quick Survey: Who spent their Friday night upgrading a computer? I now have a i7 2600k chip crunching away. I think that I won't be that far away from an upgrade. Ray, is it an 'All-n-One' or a desktop. I wondered if an 'All-in-One' could handle the hear (not sure that it could.). I really don't know. Still, great upgrade!! . JC, Thanks!! Except for Macs, I build my own computers as I am better at supporting PC's (or in this case Linux) than Dell or some other mass producer of computer boxes. Micro Center had a sale on combo motherboards and CPU deals that was just to good to pass up so I upgraded from a Q9650 CPU to a Core i7 2600k. A fantastic feature about Linux and Macs is the physical hard drive can be transferred from one computer to another (with completely different motherboards) without incident or any need to re-install the OS or applications. This does not mean you can put a Linux hard drive into a Mac and visa versa. Mac to Mac and Linux to any PC compatible system but not a Mac. Try that with Windows and good luck!!! JC, Here are two good Linux sites where you can download the OS: Debian: http://www.debian.org/ Ubuntu: http://www.ubuntu.com/ I use Unbuntu, and the OS comes with Openoffice.org software along with other very useful applications, and has no "bloat ware." PC applications cannot run on Linux, however I believe the WineHQ project software emulation attempts to address this issue. I have no idea how the software emulation would work when the motherboard is changed. If you want additional information about how to go about this process and how best to migrate over to Linux, let me know. Ray |
