Re: Help Conquer Cancer Crunching Chart

FWIW, the Dashboard has remaining days down now to 104 days. If full day projections follow through, there is a new result record for WCG, thanks to 1.3 million for HCC... 1.814 million overall, and that's on a Sunday!

Crunch On.

P.S. [Once the double sized 7.05 come out, whatever record we set during the single image set is going to last a long time.]

Re: Help Conquer Cancer Crunching Chart

It seems that the small member is not as important as in 2005 when I joined your organisation. The fact that I am being cutoff to the help Conquer Cancer is an insult and disrespect. Consequently as off today I dont want to be part of this organisation any more.. Just dont feel needed anymore.

Re: Help Conquer Cancer Crunching Chart

@evasion: everyone is important. Do you mean speedup in HCC reaserch? There are many cpu projects, where yor cpu power is important. Don't give up. When I look at sombody who returns 7000 results per day, I feel small too :) But I'm keep crounching.

This is huge disrespect to science we are all trying to help and to all people involved into it.

Dear eavsion, if you really think you are more important that ANY science around here in WCG (or elsewhere in BOINC), I can't find words how I am sick about this kind of attitude.

I wish you all the best in your small life.

@evasion... could you explain your post a little more?... I don't think we are understanding your point of view... at least I didn't understand it.

I suspect the general tone of threads such as this and the fact that unless you are running high end equip, we are looking at 12-24 hrs per wu so that GPU crunchers can do more wu and not over load the servers. Even with a 24/7 box cpu users can only expect 1-5 wu per day per core, and GPU users are whining they ONLY get 2-4 THOUSAND per day. For part time crunchers, it is 1-3 wu per week on a good week.

Personally I don't care, (I am cpu only), let them burn through the wu and they will be gone off to chase the easy points like the ladies of the evening they are. ;) While all projects are important to me, I also find it offensive that WCG is devoting 90% of their resources to part of one project and the rest can wait attitude. I for one will be here after the smoke clears to help clean up the "Trash"

The number of WU done is the important part for the science. I believe whether you do 1 WU a week or 10,000 per day your contribution is valued. Remember, this is a volunteer effort. I too am cpu only and have a couple of low end P4's (among others)which will take from 8 to 10 hours per double image unit. How WCG allocates WU is irrelevant to me. I can decide which projects I want to crunch. Just because others are doing gpu crunching is not a slam at me or anyone else. If it helps the science, great. Keep on crunching.
Cheers

I understand some of what you are saying, but to say that GPU crunchers are only here for the points is offensive. I have been crunching for WCG with my CPU's since 11 of 11. when the opportunity to speed HCC with my GPU's came, I was in with all my GPUs. Does that mean that I am chasing points? Or maybe it means that I and most others are chasing a CURE and the points just happen because we turn lotsa results :(

You are correct in this... If and/or when the gpu ability terminates, I will take my hardware somewhere else to put it to use in it's best capability. BTW... WCG is nowhere close to the points that I could get with this hardware elsewhere in some Boinc projects cool

Quit flaming on fellow crunchers and simply crunch.
