Help a dummy confused

Hello members,

two simple questions (I don't found in faq or help)...

What symbols are in the left column of the forum list, e.g.
envelopes in different colour or dimmed....

How can I become a member, my postings are labeled
as stranger although I am a member in WCG and I don't
found any Join button....

What do the icons to the left of each post in the recent thread and forum index pages indicate?

The icons come in 4 colors and mean this

Blue - light - thread

Blue - dark - thread with new posts added since your last login

Red - light - a hot thread (has had many posts)

Red - dark - a hot thread (has had many posts) with new posts since your last visit

How can I become a member, my postings are labeled

You have already joined! smile

This is actually to do with the number of posts that you have made in the forum. This is taken from this thread

By default, mvnForum installs with 4 ranks, Stranger (less than 20 posts), Newbie (less than 50 posts), Member (less than 100 posts), and Advanced Member (more than 100 posts).

So if you don't want to be a stranger, simply become an active member of the forum!

There are two different Help functions in the Forum. At the very top there is a lower case 'help' beside 'sitemap' and 'sign out' that gives you World Community Grid specific help. A bit lower, there is an index bar listing 'Index', Recent Threads' . . . . 'Help'. This upper case 'Help' takes you to MvnForum Documentation that answers both your questions. Your first question is answered in 4.5 of 'Frequently Asked Questions'. stares has correctly quoted what it says.

I am expanding on stare's answer so that you will not think that you are a dummy. There is a bug in the software that causes some icons that should be light to be displayed as dark, instead. This makes it impossible to deduce the supposed function of light / dark just by using the Forum. thinking
