I wonder ... are there some other WCG Forum rules that we should be made aware of beside those posted on Jan 21, 2005 by knreed a World Community Grid Tech at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=1537
----------------------------------------or are we expected to learn of them the hard way like the team captain at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...?thread=2358&offset=1 Admittedly, a quick alphabetical author scan, of only the WCG Forum "Teams" category, shows that team captain has authored 9 team threads with his teams name in 8 of their titles, but is that so bad? The last time I looked there were 276 "team" threads with 3743 posts. Going a little further, that author scan shows that the Community Admin who wrote We usually try to keep one Team Thread running for each team, unless you have a major event to celebrate In that case you may put your celebrations in a seperate thread which will usually age itself off the Team Forum within a couple of days It would help if you would please post your future Team Messages here http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2327 Thank you in advance for your understanding has authored 16 team threads with 8 of them having his team name in the title and in addition the capitan of that same team, who is also a Community Admin, has authored an additional 13 team threads with 9 of them containing his team name. (subtotal for 2 people, 29 out of 276 threads with 17 of the 29 containing the team name). As the WCG Forum is the first one I have ever participated in, I am new to this form of communicating and I would like to be enlightened, by those more experienced participants, of what published WCG Forum rule has been broken or of what transgression of forum etiquette in general has occurred? Perhaps, in the future, if someone is doing something that irritates the CA's but is not in violation of a published forum rule, then may I suggest the new rule(s) be published in the appropriate place for all to see and in future offending threads include the location of the published rule being violated. Please publish rules before enforcement, Thank you. Now, let's keep folding those proteins... ![]() .. United States Marine Corps .. |

Hi Ski1939
First of all I find it disconcerting to have to justify my actions to you, regarding an issue that was never posted in your thread or directed to you personally The position of a Community Admin is voluntary and due to the fact that I am representing the WCG, I have to show a measure of restraint in my reply It seems that you are a little ticked off with the unwritten and generally respected rule of only running one Team Thread, in the Team Forums It seems that I can do 1000 things right for the benefit of the members and the WCG, but it seems that the 1 unwritten rule that is a given, in the spirit of fair play by the rest of the Team Captains does not meet with your approval, as in your opinion, it has to be in black and white before you consider it a valid issue We have tried to maintain as few rules here as possible, as the judgement of the Team Members and Team Captains here, has been generally exemplary and the need to enforce rules here, has been generally non existent There is an old saying that goes something like this [Monkey, see, Monkey, do] If one member is unaware, or chooses to misunderstand, misuse or flaunt the rules and is not politely asked to consider the interests of the other Members here, of this fact, then everyone will choose to follow suit and the current harmony here, will be destroyed I am in the process of having to get the rules updated for your personal benefit, to ensure that this situation will not occur again in an effort to appease you It is unfortunate that everything has to be in black and white to ensure fair play I am sure that the majority of the members here will agree with me, when I say that having to add further rules to the Forums, does not improve the quality of the Forums and are a direct slap in the face to the members that show a good sense of fair play to begin with Which in general has been the unspoken rule here and it would seem that they like the way things are and should not be subjected to any more rules than is absolutely necessary We usually try to keep one Team Thread running for each team, unless, you have a major event to celebrate In that case you may put your celebrations in a separate thread which will Usually age itself off the Team Forum within a couple of days It would help if you would please post your future Team Messages here The quote above is a request, not enforcement Please publish rules before enforcement, Thank you. Please keep my comments in perspective as it appears you are blowing this situation out of proportion |

Hi Graham -
----------------------------------------Rather then parse your above post (unfortunately now deleted) I will include it here in its entirety - Hi Ski1939 It seems that you are a little ticked off with the unwritten and generally respected rule of only running one Team Thread in the Team Forums It seems that I can do 999 things right for the benefit of the members and the WCG, but it seems that the one unwritten rule that is a given, in the spirit of fair play by the rest of the Team Captains does not meet with your approval, as in your opinion, it has to be in black and white before you consider it a valid issue We have tried to maintain as few rules here, as possible, as the judgement of the Team Members and Team Captains here has been generally exemplary and the need to enforce rules here, has been generally non existent There is an old saying that goes something like this [ Monkey see, Monkey do ] If one member chooses to misunderstand, misuse or flaunt the rules and is not politely asked to consider the interests of the other Members here, of this fact, then everyone will choose to follow suit and the current harmony here, will be destroyed I am in the process of having to get the rules updated for your personal benefit, to ensure that this situation will not occur again It is unfortunate that everything has to be in black and white to ensure fair play I am sure that the majority of the members here will agree with me, when I say that having to add further rules does not improve the quality of the Forums and are a direct slap in the face to the Members that show a good sense of fair play to begin with Which in general has been the unspoken rule here and it would seem that they like the way things are and should not be subjected to any more rules than is absolutely necessary We usually try to keep one Team Thread running for each team, unless you have a major event to celebrate In that case you may put your celebrations in a seperate thread which will usually age itself off the Team Forum within a couple of days It would help if you would please post your future Team Messages here The quote above is a request, not an enforcement ---------------------------------------- Regards Graham First of all Graham, I want to say that you have given to me personally, to the USMC team, to countless other WCG contributors and to the WCG as a whole significant and continuing unselfish assistance, support and encouragement for which I and so many others are deeply grateful and appreciative. In addition, I want to recognize you here and now for your outstanding efforts to recruit contributors to participate in the WCG, your achievement for single handedly adding 3000+ new contributors by your BBC interviews is unique and truly awesome and deservers my highest complements. However, I think you may have misinterpreted my involvement in this "multiple team thread" issue as being "ticked off" which is an emotion. Please be assured that I am not "ticked off", I am simply trying to bring some of the facts to the surface that perhaps will make it more enjoyable for others to participate in posting their thoughts in the forums threads. I am first of all a law abiding person, as I am sure you are, and both of us would like to respond in the spirit of the last Rule currently published which is "Please try to make the Forums an enjoyable experience for all the members here". I felt that the team captain that was being "requested" to comply with "the unwritten and generally respected rule of only running one Team Thread in the Team Forums" was probably as unaware, as I was, that such even existed (written or unwritten). I joined the WCG on 11/17/04 and established the USMC team the same day as its team captain, however, until the "multiple team thread" issue was raised on her thread, I had not heard anything about the one thread limit and was quite frankly wondering why, since I had seen so many "multiple team threads" being posted by several of the more prolific posting teams. In addition, I somehow missed (as I characterize it) the "king of the mountain" explanation that was given for the (unpublished) suggestion/agreement to limit the team thread to one per team. I have mention in aother post, As the WCG Forum is the first one I have ever participated in, I am new to this form of communicating and I would like to be enlightened, by those more experienced participants, of what published WCG Forum rule has been broken or of what transgression of forum etiquette in general has occurred? I am sure it is difficult for some to recall how intimidating were their first forum experiences, but for those of us who are first timers, we probably will continue to make some of the same mistakes that the experienced ones have already learned from. Hopefully we can instruct new comers to the forum, when they have done something that needs to be corrected, in such a way that they continue to participate in the forum rather then leave it for good. By the way, for me it does not have to be in black and white to be a either a "valid issue" or to "ensure fair play", but it helps us first timers to know what is the right thing to do. As for my opinion concerning "multiple teams threads", you also misunderstand me, as I am in favor of limiting it to one and only one thread per team, put all the other exemplary team achievement threads into the chat room. The only exception, would be when a team thread became excessively long (say 500 posts), in which case a new team thread could be opened and the old one closed/retired. I can see where you might have thought that I had a different opinion, but I'll let my actions speak for themselves, if you check all the forums you will find that I have authored one and only one thread. As I said in my previous suggestion Perhaps, in the future, if someone is doing something that irritates the CA's but is not in violation of a published forum rule, then may I suggest the new rule(s) be published in the appropriate place for all to see and in future offending threads include the location of the published rule being violated. That was my only goal for intervening in this issue, to come up with some diplomatic way to document the issue, and then promulgate the solution so that others could learn from the mistake. In closing Graham, I agree with you, I for one "... like the way things are and should not be subjected to any more rules than is absolutely necessary" and I would like to add an excerpt from one of the TribalWar team's posts, to make our WCG Forum one of the "least-oppressively-moderated" forums. Unfortunately, no one can't comply with rules if they don't know about them. Once again, thank you, Graham, for all your help, support, understanding and especially for updating the forum rules not just for "my personal benefit" but for the benefit of all WCG contributors. Please keep up the excellent work that you and the other 5 Community Admin's are doing, we all appreciate how difficult that job must be. Sorry I have to join in on this one as Team Captain of the forementioned team who is also a Community Admin.
----------------------------------------Can I just point out that forementioned team has only one active thread and that is titled chapter 2 as the original thread got to such an alarming length as is the current one and after 500 posts in the thread known hereinafter as Chapter 2 there will be a new team thread with the title chapter 3. This will then become the single active team thread of the forementioned team I must protest that I should only be allowed to post one thread ever in the Team Forum as this seems to be the line you are taking. This is not what is meant by the forementioned unwritten rule. I confess that the forementioned team currently have 2 threads in the top 10 list but hey we celebrated breaking 10,000,000 points last night and I am sure that we will allow you to do the same when you break 10 million points. That's is the thrust of the unwritten rule. Just one thread for each team unless you have something serious to celebrate. This gives room for everyone who has an active team to be in with a shout on the Team Forum By the way the forementioned number of posts by the team captain of the forementioned team who is a Community Admin without the forementioned team name in their titles are all celebrating the efforts of "Team WCG" which are for the benefit of every single member of the World Community Grid which as also a Community Admin is surely my Job for which I am not saleried to congratulate everyone on their contribution to the HPF Project and the WCG and boost "Team WCG" moral whenever possible. Thanks for reading this which hereinafter will be known as a post from the forementioned team captain of the forementioned team who is also Community Admin ![]() Take care all ![]() |

Hi PRNRN91 - Welcome and thank you for posting on the USMC team thread.
----------------------------------------On behalf of my USMC team member, leatherneck74-84, may I thank you and your Cybernauts team for recognizing his milestone achievement of contributing over one year of total runtime to the WCG. He is our team's second yearling. He doesn't get into the WCG Forum very often as he is a full time graduate student and he also has a full time job, working 40 hours a week. Wow, I don't know how he can do that, it makes me exhausted just to write about it. I'm glad you are still folding those proteins and as I think you have a great sense of humor, I hope to see you continue to post on your Cybernauts team thread. Please remember that the WCG has people from all over the world and what is really funny in one country won't even crack a smile in another. You can't please everyone, no mater how careful you are or how hard you try. Bye for now and ... Now, let's keep folding those proteins... ![]() .. United States Marine Corps .. |
