I agree with Scribe. There is something on your computer that causes the screen saver to go away, so you had better 'compute while in use' until you discover what is wrong. The work unit runs at lowest priority anyway.

Very good! I set the "Do work while computer is in use?" option to "Yes" and then used the machine the rest of the day, plus left it on all weekend. Then I checked my Results Status just now, and I found that it is now reporting activity / CPU Time / BOINC Credit. The World Community Grid screensaver still fails to come on and stay on, but that's not a great problem, since I now know that BOINC will work regardles of whether the screensaver is working.
