Good Afternoon Base Campers
----------------------------------------Breaking News Some idiots just bombed government buildings in Oslo, Norway's capital. Why? Norway does nothing but help everywhere. Unbelieveably idiotic! Trek #30 Report The camp ground in Idaho is slowly filling up. As of yesterday we were: LM, TLD, USAFA 82, deltavee, PecosRiverM, T.G.Wakko, cswchan, AlephNull, LoneWolf and overnight Dan Holtz fled the 117F heat in Arizona. And we'll be 11 when the airplane from Indiana arrives with rwillis and his pets from Indiana. ![]() ![]() Food The Base Camp Camp menu for tonight (and yes, all who join will have supper): We now have two Canadians in the camp ground; that should be reason enough to serve some typical Canadian food - so what do they eat in Canada? Frankly, I don't know. Please fill me in, someone! Well, I have seen great TV programs with grizzly bears catching salmon in the river. Salmon must be good - and a bear would choose something berryish for dessert. Let's see: ![]() Herbed salmon - and blueberry pancakes drowned in Canadian maple syrup .... Let's hope our Swedish cook attracts more crunchers to wildly beautiful Idaho - look at this: The Salmon (yes, The Salmon) River and the Sawtooth Mountains Culture Music Music from Norway: Ave Maria The National Anthem of Norway Ja vi elsker dette landet - Yes, We Love This Country Secret Garden Nocturne EDIT: - and an à pro pos, because Scandinavian Aslylum Legislation was never really meant to deal with this - just to deal with people in need of asylum: Norwegian Jihad - Produced by ABC Australia EDIT: The "Go Norway" and the Norwegian flag smiley bear removed. Added this flag instead: ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Jul 23, 2011 6:52:36 AM] |

Good Afternoon Base Campers
Norway An unbelievalble tragedy hit Norway yesterday. A car bomb exploded in the government district of Oslo. As if that was not enough, a young man dressed as a police officer started shooting right and left at a political summer camp for young Social Democrats on an island near Oslo. So far 91 people are dead and numerous injured, most of them young ones who never got the chance to live their lives like you and me. I thought the car bomb was international Islamist terrorism as did most experts. The shooting spree, however, was puzzling. As far as I know now, it turned out the suspect of both crimes was a homegrown Norwegian, Norway's answer to Timothy McVeigh. Personally, it has affected me in the same way emotionally as did 9/11 which I'll never forget. I know people of that number die tragically on Planet Earth on a daily basis. Terror, natural disasters, accidents. But this is Norway - part of Denmark until 1814, when it tried its hand on autonomy quickly stopped by Sweden forcing Norway into a union. That was dissolved in 1905 when Norway gained autonomy. Norway elected a Danish prince as its first King, and the ties between Norway and Denmark are very close as between brothers who love each other. Therefore the emotional outpour from Denmark is large as it also is from our other Nordic brothers. Trek #30 Report There is no sign of rwillis arriving yet, and deltavee has left for other duties. Thank you for being there, deltavee. Culture Music Henrik Ibsen is Norway's famous writer and poet and Edvard Grieg Norway's famous composer. Peer Gynt is a dramatic poem by Henrik Ibsen based on the myths about Peer Gynt, and Edvard Grieg made the music This beautiful small piece from Peer Gynt is called "Åse's død" - Åse being a name for females. The Death of Åse - and, of course, Edvard Munch is Norway's great painter who painted "The Scream" ![]() |

Crazy is crazy - one of the global unities we share across all religions and nationalities. Sigh... I really feel for the parents, siblings, and friends of those children. So near adulthood, only to be cut short by a madman.

Good Afternoon Base Campers
Norway A minute of silence was observed at 12 o'clock in the Nordic countries. Among those killed at Utøya was the police officer stepbrother of Crownprincess Mette Marit. Death does not discriminate. Trek #30 report Now back to work: 10 of us Base Campers crunch along in the heat of Idaho - it's almost as bad as in Texas; 102F yesterday, NAP2614 says. Wonder what happened to rwillis? Wonder why no new campers want to see Idaho ![]() Food There hasn't been time for our Swedish cook to shop for any fine meal, so we agreed to eat the preferred Danish fast food "Red Sausage with Bread" sold at street stands - mobile or permanent: ![]() ![]() The preferred drink to go with it is Cocio - chocolate milk. I have never been able to stomach that - but the majority is said to love it ... Culture Music The most beautiful Norwegian music you can imagine by Edvard Grieg - I'm sure you have heard it before Morning Mood The title refers to Norway but on a slightly lighter note Norwegian Wood ![]() 1,317,142 people have lit a candle so far ... |
