I can't finish the installation - I get an error message, "Internal Error 2735. CAShutdownUD" when the installer is at "Shutting down running instances of United Devices agent". This happens whether or not a United Devices agent is installed or running. (An earlier version of the BOINC agent installed and operated beautifully, but for some reason I decided to upgrade to the latest version...)
Does anyone know what the problem might be? Thanks, Alan |

Hi,
----------------------------------------Please would you read this thread http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=16603 where the problem was first reported and work-around offered. It's specific to this install package and only for W98 clients have reported this. Later versions don't have the issue. cheers

We are working on a new version of our install package that will be used when we update to the BOINC 5.10.3X client. That will resolve the Win 98 install issue.
In the meantime you can download the latest version of the client from BOINC directly and be able to participate: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php |

I tried installing the latest version of the client from BOINC. The installation stopped at the same place as before, with the same error message. And to top it off, it crashed the computer (in 2 out of 2 attempts), which hadn't happened before. So, no progress.

Using a 10 year old operating system? I strongly advise you to stick with an older version of BOINC, or upgrade your operating system.
If you got BOINC from Berkeley, you shouldn't get that error. What was the version number you tried to install? Where did you download it from? |

I would agree with Didactylos. Using a ten year old os is not recommended, especially one made by microsoft. What is the specification of the machine. Is it ten years old as well?

I downloaded boinc_5.10.28_windows_intelx86 from http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php and tried to install. Yes, it's an old computer, the oldest and slowest of my 5 installs. Nevertheless, it was productive with the previous installed version of the WCG BOINC agent (probably 5.10.1x). Is there any way to dowload one of the older versions? Otherwise, I'll probably have to wait and see if the next updated version installs.

Now I've tried installing 5.10.30, with essentially the same problem (although this time without crashing the computer).
However, Windows Install Clean Up utility solved the problem. |

Thanks al_wolfe,
I added a pointer to this thread in Start Here about installing BOINC 5.10 on Windows 98. Lawrence |
