I just registered at this site yesterday, but when I was going through registration I ran into some problems. The first screen were you pick username/password and give e-mail address worked just fine. When I hit continue to go the download page I received an error. It said the the application is unavailable at this time. I checked a little while ago and it was still down, so I just downloaded 5.10.28 from the boinc website. Then I tried to add the project, but it just tells me there is an error. It's weird because it will tell me if I type my username/password in wrong, but it won't add the project with the right login.

The download page works fine now: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/reg/ms/viewDownloadBoinc.do?newMember=false
What is the exact error you are getting when trying to attach? |

This is happening to me too. It won't let me download the client from the website link on the main page while logged into a newly created account. So I downloaded BOINC from berkeley and the client gives a "an error has occurred" message after entering username and password.
Tried another account that was created a while ago which works fine. Anyone else having this problem with new accounts? |

Nope. I get this from that link you provided, using a newly created account. The old account works fine.

Not tried that in order to not destroy my working install, but after some reading did a second install on a different disk. The WCG installer does not require any username/password entry. It's all automatic. As expected, the client picked up all information and added WCG and downloaded work totally autonomous.
----------------------------------------Can you check the My Grid > My Profile page to see if the BOINC Account Key was created. Make sure to do the install while logged in your regular browser. If it does not work with Firefox or IE, switch the browser.... there are known issues of BOINC not seeing one or the other *default* browser, but that's a wild stab.

I looked earlier and a BOINC account key wasn't created for me. When I try to add the project from BOINC it connects to the website then asks me for username and password. Then gives me an error after I enter them.

The berkeley BOINC installer doesn't require a login to install -- However, after it's installed, it will prompt for a project site, username and password in order to connect to the project. (BOINC Manager >> Tools >> Attach to Project >> Next >> Project URL Entry >> Username/Password Entry >> Similar Error Msg described previously)
So after reading your message, I checked (www.worldcommunitygrid.org >> my grid >> my profile) and found no BOINC Account key created.. the fields just didn't show. Following your suggestion, since the new account was created under Opera's web browser, I renamed my account, and recreated another new account using IE. Checked for account keys and they were there. Retried connecting with BOINC Manager and survey says....... IT WORKS! I didn't retry replicating the problem with Opera again but i'm guessing that the account creation isn't exactly cross platform yet for different browsers, but it's good that I could just create it on IE and go back to Opera. :) Now, please excuse me -- I must go and find a cure for cancer and do some climate calculations or something.... like.. study for my chemistry exam.. lol Thanks for your help! I'm up and running. |
