Can anyone tell me the advantage of this feature? Why not simply run each application to 100% before starting the next one?

There are many that are attached to multiple projects that each get an X weight and who are 'involved' in maintaining positions in competition RAC and more. BOINC tries to give each project that X per day(s). The default is 60 minutes, but I've set it to 6 hours, so most jobs do get finished in 1 go. This is more efficient over time in terms of disk i/o and memory use.... speak overall throughput.
----------------------------------------If attached to just WCG, with default weight 100 (100% of all), there is no project switching at all, unless a short deadline job is received while a longer deadline job is in progress.... that in fact is out-with the scheduler's weight switching routine. cheers
