Is it possible to run Boinc on VMWare ESX? I'm assuming it's the same instructions as for the VMWare Player - run it as a virtual host.
----------------------------------------Just wondering if VMWare ESX allows me to prioritize the Boinc virtual server to last priority... Haven't actually set anything up yet, but I'm guessing there is a way to set it to last priority. Comments, suggestions? -Rajan |

Hello FOBioPatel,
I am clueless but since nobody else is answering, I will point out that BOINC runs the cpu benchmark program, downloads and uploads files, handles encryption and decryption, and starts and stops the application process. It sets the low priority level for the application which does all the crunching. I don't see any important reason to set a low priority for BOINC itself. Lawrence |

Figured it out; it is possible. Set the VM to be last priority, run it in a linux distro with a small footprint. Ubuntu works.

i'm running boinc under VMWare GSX, but i think would be nice on ESX server since i don't have much money to buy ESX
---------------------------------------- and my boinc is run under winxp and fedora core 6.with ESX you can set up the priority to the VM Machine ![]() |
