Site History They forgot the part about sending make-work for over 6 months, trashing the database backups and finally pulling the plug. I saw the amazing inattention piling up and came over here a year before the end. I was actually a simultaneous advisor both there and here, but everyone was kept in the dark over there. Ask Scribe. The forum also went away completely with the same couple of days notice. There was 6 years worth of built-up info in there that could have actually been useful to the UD grid crunchers over here. A few here managed to capture a few message chains before the fateful end.Established in 2001, Grid.org operated as a public interest Internet research grid for over 6 years, with connections to more than 3.6 million devices worldwide. Its primary mission was to demonstrate the power of early grid technology. In this capacity, Grid.org processed data related to cancer, smallpox, and human genome research among other projects. The first mission having been successfully completed, we have worked with community members to broaden the reach of the site and encourage use of open source technologies for grid computing at large. ![]()

The first mission having been successfully completed, we have worked with community members to broaden the reach of the site Reminds me of the Simpsons episode where George H. W. Bush moves in across the street. Bart walks in on Bush typing his memoirs in his garage, "And since I'd achieved all my goals as President in one term, there was no need for a second. The end." ![]() |

Surely it's just the truth. Having pissed off all the faithful crunchers they have to spread their net to find some new suckers.
