Any plans to transfer WCG 'credit' to BOINC during migration?

Since we have to create a 'new' account on the BOINC system as part of the migration, is there any plans to transfer my accumulated UD client 'credit' to this BOINC account?

Otherswise, I guess we are starting from scratch again.

To my knowledge there are no plans. Some previous threads discuss the pro/con of this. At WCG points earned with BOINC convert so they can continue to sum on the My Grid page as they've always done, but would it be correct to push over legacy points earned with the UD agent into global BOINCstats?

NO! A precedent is SETI, Classic was not added to BOINC

Do you mean for your points at WCG? You can use the same username as your UD agent; the UD points will still remain on your account & you will create a new BOINC device (but still under the same username).

But Climate Prediction for example did. I would appreciate the UD points being added.

Re: Any plans to transfer WCG 'credit' to BOINC during migration?

...and would it be actually possible?
Consider....
I started running WCG with ONLY UD.

A couple of years later I then started with ONLY Boinc and my points were added to the UD total as well as Boinc total.

If you now request that the UD points are added to Boinc there is duplication as Boinc points will be added twice.

There are also many sites who compare total BOINC points for users, which now means that some users would have an unfair advantage by having points added that were not obtained by running Boinc!

RKN_frost,

Ignore what other projects did, my question stands to you.

Early adopters of BOINC who attained a ranking at BOINCstats would suddenly see many who stuck to UD agent hi/low ahead of them. Large teams would cause a major shake up in global BOINC standings. Even project rankings would get re-ordered substantially.... WCG jumping from 5 to 2. Don't think that fair to the long standing BOINC users. There's a *My Grid* button inside BOINCmgr, which instantaneously provides the *Total* WCG view. Your score remains to consolidate at WCG, why would it have to consolidate outside WCG?

Whatever is (or isn't) done, some people are going to be unhappy.

I think the sensible thing to do is not to worry and wait until WCG announce their plans.

Re: Any plans to transfer WCG 'credit' to BOINC during migration?

Sorry for bumping a rather old post, but here's my 2 cents on that matter:

I just started crunching in July, exclusively on BOINC, so basically if the UD Points were migrated to BOINC, I would be at a disadvantage (somehow). Yet I would still love to see that because:

The Stats. You all know, one of the main motiviations to crunch for whatever is the competition, the numbers. Now atm, WCGs own Statistics are rather... boring to use, as opposed to some great Stats sites like e.g. boincstats. Now the problem with this is that atm, using boincstats for wcg is pointless at it shows no true indication on your actual rank (I'm Rank 12.341 atm, however, Boincstats lists me at Rank nr 4xxx). It even can tell me that I have gained +4 Rank, while I actually lost 10. That's a bit frustrating.

It was even hard to find a site supplying correct signature information on WCG.

Also, I don't see the problem with being unfair to other projects: After all, had WCG started with BOINC from the beginning, we *would* be still Projekt #2 then. After all, it should be about the cause the actual amount of people working on a project rather than the percentage of those that have switched to BOINC + when.

The only actual problem I see is with the people that started crunching with UD and now have stopped alltogether, hence have no BOINC account (or won't have after the last UD project expires). But they could be probably set on some sort of inactive list (in WCG) and if they ever come back can get right back into the "normal" ranking by creating a BOINC acc and start crunching again.
