biggrin Chance of an Educational Video?

I have found in advocating the use of BOINC on your computer that it sometimes is hard for people to grasp what it does and how it works. Yet some of the YouTube videos I have found that help explain what some BOINC projects are and what World Community Grid is help to peak peoples interest and sway them to join. Though these videos are not that professional and don't give the most professional explanation or image that World Community Grid deserves.

I would like to suggest if its not in the works already that they look into making a short video that explains what the World Community is and how it works. Giving some history and plans for the future. Also talking about what BOINC is, how it works, and how safe it is would be a great addition to the video.

Suppose you saw the "amateur" 6 minute animation of the workings of WCG too.... http://www.ibm.com/podcasts/howitworks/021307/index.html

It's found on the WCG News & Media page

Added: A Toolbox with material usable for circulation and promotion is in the making and should appear in a few months.

Re: Chance of an Educational Video?

No, actually never saw that.

I just listened to it and it is great, but I find that the podcast just doesn't capture attention the same way that a video would. The podcast has most the information that if visual tools were added would probably be a great video and able to pull in many new users. I know there is send an email to a friend, why not include send a link to a friend to a video to learn about the WCG.

The video would help explain visually, while maybe giving examples of what screen savers are being run, visualization of some of the research, showing how to install and how the paths work of information flow through the grid system. Also if the video were to be created it would be great in presentations to companies and groups.

I am establishing a student group at my college promoting BONIC and WCG and a video explaining it would be better in a power point presentation explaining everything to my audiences.

Re: Chance of an Educational Video?

Do you have the "Flash" browser add-in to see the imagery going with the audio? There's a little control to start it an get the full experience.

Re: Chance of an Educational Video?

I have no problem seeing the flash arrows going from the servers to the computers, but arrows don't give you much inside look at what is going on. It shows data goes from the server to the computer yes, but what it doesn't show is something more along the lines of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gE3N8v1RzJo&am...llege%20Television%20MCTV
and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boS8UUHh0EM&am...llege%20Television%20MCTV
, but with less of the news and more like a documentary such as this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNud-goRBgE which is a documentary on climate modeling computed in part by BOINC.

Re: Chance of an Educational Video?

Yes, actually that is the same video as my second link found in my previous post.

It really doesn't explain the steps of how one can get involved, it just states that you get a client on your computer. It also doesn't explain how it works with your computer specifically, it gives the general of grid computing, but how your computer is helping specifically is unknown to those watching. Also some people who have watched it think that since its stated that the computers are combined that they lose control of their computer and that it must be connected to the internet all the time. The video also gives a very news like atmosphere, a more documentary approach would be better for presentations.
