I'm using a UD agent in Window XP.
Every time I restart my computer, the world community grid task starts from the beginning again. It's shown in the "task execution progress" that it had already finished a few percent of the task when I turned off my machine. However, the "task execution progress" shows that it's starting from 0% again when I restart my computer. Why does this happen and how can I solve this problem? Thanks |

Hello jenyip,
----------------------------------------Normally this means that you have not written a new checkpoint since yoiur previous checkpoint. What throttle setting? Which projects do you run? How fast is your cpu? What OS? (Vista has special problems.) Added: okay, Windows XP. Sorry I forgot. How long do you normally run before shutting down? It's now running Proteome Folding 2 in a laptop with 1.66GHz CPU and no throttle setting.
I usually run for 3-4 hours before shutting down. |

no throttle setting The default throttle is 60% unless you change it (for examplre, to 100%). Are you using a laptop? If so, you might want to consider hibernation ( http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=8583#69135 ). Lawrence |

If you are checking the progress of the UD agent right after you turn on your machine, you may occasionally see it at 0% for a short time. I have noticed this this happens on my machine from time to time, sometimes for as long as two-three minutes. It will then figure out where it was at and resume at its last checkpoint. Maybe it just needs to get its bearings or get itself re-set somewhere or it is just a quirk in my machine. Check it after a couple of minutes and see if it has returned to its last checkpoint.

Sgt.Joe.... same observation here, particularly with HPF2.
----------------------------------------A good moment to bring an FAQ under the attention again for all readers on how to verify Checkpointing and avoiding progress loss as best possible, not to mention that BOINC (a hint/nag to migrate sooner than later) has an extra logging feature to record them like this: 6-10-2007 13:53:46|World Community Grid|[checkpoint_debug] result faah2416_ZINC01728359_06_xmd02220_00_1 checkpointed 6-10-2007 13:57:23|World Community Grid|[checkpoint_debug] result faah2416_ZINC01728359_06_xmd02220_00_1 checkpointed 6-10-2007 13:59:06|World Community Grid|[checkpoint_debug] result li167_00014_18 checkpointed 6-10-2007 14:00:57|World Community Grid|[checkpoint_debug] result faah2416_ZINC01728359_06_xmd02220_00_1 checkpointed 6-10-2007 14:04:32|World Community Grid|[checkpoint_debug] result faah2416_ZINC01728359_06_xmd02220_00_1 checkpointed
