confused Change disk partition

Hi, is the amount of disk space for calculations taken from the "main" partition? I have a small partition for "c:", in witch I keep program files (and I think the WCG agent uses space from this partition), and a partition with 80 GBytes. So, I would like to set the bigger partition to be used by WCG. I can change the amount of disc space to keep for calculations, but I cannot find how to set the partition in witch that space should be.

Re: Change disk partition

I assume that you are using UD and not BOINC. Wherever you installed the UD program is the disk drive of concern. The program allows for a maximum of 10Gb. Doing this can help the point total a bit, but at the moment it doesn't use nearly that much. It's a historical thing.

Naturally, you are free to move the contents of the UD directory and subdirectories to a different disk drive if you want. It's not tied to the Windows registry at all. Just exit the program and icon to close everything if you mess with it, then start it again as usual.

Over the next few months, the UD version will be going away and everything must run on BOINC. Food for thought.

Re: Change disk partition

Thank you Retsof.
Well, I just downloaded Boinc. Your suggestions (move the directories to the other partition) are also true for Boinc?
Do I have to keep running both Boinc and Ud?

Re: Change disk partition

Hi,

If you downloaded 5.10.22 of BOINC from the WCG page, the install process will ask you if UD should be uninstalled. Say yes, as UD is being phased out.

It also asks where to install. If Vista, it's recommended to put it somewhere else, but not in the c:\program files\ directory structure. Given you have lots of space on your second partition, put it in for instance D:\BOINC\.

cheers

Re: Change disk partition

Sekerob, 5.10.22 ought to work just fine installed to the default location on Vista. No guarantees, but Rom worked hard to make BOINC Vista ready.

D., Long as there are ought's and No Guarantees and the future 6.x version is moving the actual data out to the All Users group, you wont find me making recommendation to the contrary ;P

Re: Change disk partition

There has been nothing about Vista showing up on the alpha list for a couple of months now. I'm quietly optimistic.

Re: Change disk partition

Didactylos, I have nothing against Boinc running fine under Vista (I am still under XP for as long as I can), but agadino also said that he has a small c: partition. If he wants to have a few WUs in queue and/or eventually try some African Climate WUs he would be safer with Boinc in his d: partition, imho.

Cheers. Jean.
