Now you'r telling me that the UD client is being phased out. OK, i can understand that, but i have been saving UD-points since 2002. I still want to do WCG but turning over to BOINC I will loose all my credit. What the heck? What is that? There is no way I can transfer my UD-points to my BOINC-profile???. 5-6 years of credit-accumlating down the drain? (I will continue DC anyhow, but this is extremly disencouraging to continue WCG.) regars Lars V. |

....and the times they are a changing. The uplifting part being that AFAIK, the BOINC points will continue to add to the UD points you already have on the My Grid page. Take them BOINC credits times 7 plus those of your ol agent and you're still on top.

Wodan,
----------------------------------------I can understand your frustration of having to migrate to BOINC. I migrated some devices to BOINC purely to get more output from multicore machines, but still run UD on several machines. I have had no problems whatsoever with BOINC however, and would highly recommend that all user should migrate. My only critism of BOINC is the throttle control which is not the most efficient way of controlling CPU usage on laptops and the like which may suffer when running at high core temperatures, but I believe that this will be addressed in the new version. It would be nice, however, if some projects would still be available for UD as I have several devices running UD which I no longer have access to. Not sure if this is viable due to circumstances/politics etc. I known that many users simply install UD and dont check to see if it is still crunching. I would expect there to be a dramatic drop in the global stats after the switchover, but hopefully the amount of dual and quad core processors boinc is running on will minimise the effect.

Visit the Threadmaster Throttle tool FAQ in the Start Here forum.
----------------------------------------Add interim FAAH and HPF2 will continue to run probably thru mid 2008, noting that any UD agent machine does a better job because its needing lesser resources, UD has lots of slowing encryption overhead while computing.
