Question re: install via MSI Transform and Group Policy

Hoping someone out there has this issue or has experienced it before.

I'm currently trying to deploy BOINC via our new Active Directory, using information from the "How to Deploy BOINC via AD" article on the BOINC Wiki.
The reason for this is that we have 200 PCs here at CAH that all need to have BOINC reinstalled due to a recent upgrade to our AD.

The suggestions offered by "The Lazy Slug" do not seem to work, and a ticket has been raised about it, but nothing has been done yet, hence why I am flying solo.

I am using Microsoft Orca to create a transform file for the boinc.msi file, with the appropriate settings to create a Service, etc. The issue I have is: How do I tell the transform to, as quoted from the Boinc Wiki page: "create an MSI Transform that contains the account_*.xml files of the projects you have already attached to on another machine."

I attempted to use the top three lines in the <account> section of the account_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml file, but the installer seems to ignore them, and when deployed by Group Policy, BOINC installs OK, but when a user, any user logs in, BOINC asks for the account username, etc. So obviously I have the info from the account_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml incorrect.

Has anyone done this before with this version of BOINC (5.10.20) and Group Policies?

Cheers,
Randall.

Re: Question re: install via MSI Transform and Group Policy

I recommend you don't try to install 5.10.20. It's an early release, and it isn't the final 5.10 release. Wait until WCG make 5.10 the recommended version.

Meanwhile, stick with 5.8, using TheLazySlug's transform.

Can you verify on one of your installs that the account_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml files are present in the new installation?

That is my question - I am unsure how to apply these files to the transform.

Regards,
Randall.

P.S for Didactylos, Confirmed that The Lazy Slug's transforms do indeed work with version 5.8, thanks. :)
