New to BOINC

I just switched from UD to BOINC and noticed that there is always internet activity since switching. Is this normal?

Yes, it's talking to itself (internally)

Re: New to BOINC

Hello James Hillcoat,
What Scribe means is that the BOINC client and application talk to each other once a second. This is called the 'heartbeat'. Communicating this way makes it easy for other programs, such as BOINCview, to monitor computers running BOINC in a network.

Re: New to BOINC

It's over the so called Localhost (IP 127.0.0.1) and mostly port 31416 using the RPC protocol. I've disabled, BOINC + Science specific the monitoring of the traffic for both the Alwil Avast AV and Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall and the logging. It gave a very slight performance improvement.
