I just switched from UD to BOINC and noticed that there is always internet activity since switching. Is this normal?

Yes, it's talking to itself (internally)

Hello James Hillcoat,
What Scribe means is that the BOINC client and application talk to each other once a second. This is called the 'heartbeat'. Communicating this way makes it easy for other programs, such as BOINCview, to monitor computers running BOINC in a network. Lawrence |

It's over the so called Localhost (IP 127.0.0.1) and mostly port 31416 using the RPC protocol. I've disabled, BOINC + Science specific the monitoring of the traffic for both the Alwil Avast AV and Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall and the logging. It gave a very slight performance improvement.
