Johnny, this is a problem with your computer, not with WCG. Please read the FAQ: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=14222
If you can't fix the problem with that information, then please tell us more about your situation (version, OS - the usual stuff). |

Oh, my computer. I did what you posted. I think you meant to say "in your main Boinc directory", as there is no "Data" folder. Just folders named "projects", "slots" and locale. Let's see what now happens. Yet, the question remains, why did I have to do this on my own? ![]() Edit: After doing that, I still have 8 hours of work units to be sent. Edit 2: It is working now. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 2 times, last edit by Johnny Cool at Sep 3, 2007 3:35:44 AM] |

Hi Johnny Cool,
----------------------------------------Sticking to the letter, that's how it's called when you look in the start-up log messages of BOINC: 1-9-2007 22:41:35||Data directory: C:\Programmi\BOINC Most is understood, but not that one, by me either, and I'm just a foreigner. Why you had to do that? You did not tell us what BOINC version or OS you had before the problem nor after, but it's more than often a result of an upgrade or clean install with a package that has the file missing. We know for fact that the direct WCG distribution has the certificate. ttyl

My Data partition is in my D partition. Boinc is on my 2nd internal hard drive in my R partition. I am running XP Pro SP2 with an old AMD 64 3500+. Hi Johnny.
The FAQ is correct. Later versions of BOINC will move the data files somewhere else, so it's important to make the exact directory clear. What's the log for? Are you asking a follow up question, or is it not yet as fixed as it ought to be? |

Hi JC,
----------------------------------------I replied to neither of your 2 last posts (a double), so feel free to delete either of the 2. Since you wrote in edit 2, 3 posts up that things are working now, no need to explore further. Long as it works, don't fix it. One day there will be an option to have the 'data' directory put in the proper place, maybe version 6.xx.xxxx I remember that grorg discussion on disk organization strategies, and someone getting pretty tight on the topic of where to install the swap file. Feel free to revitalize in a new thread of the chat room. I'll bookmark it if it comes and things in there tend to sinker faster than in a Louisiana sump. ttyl
