Windows Vista and System Requirements

ENGLISH VERSION
Hello,

I have seen that there is a new project. And before accept computing for it, it is said to see the System Requirements, but in system requirements there is no word about Windows Vista. I suppose that it works with, but it will be nice if you write it ;)

For the other project they all works with Vista on my computer (I have 2 GB of RAM on my PC)

Version en Français
Bonjour,

Re: Windows Vista and System Requirements

Hi wedgeantilles,

Vista is an invention to let people think its a new operating system, but it's just another Windows MEII, so go with the windows specification. As you've already been running BOINC without problems on Vista, you're okay, else visit the Vista FAQ

cheers

Re: Windows Vista and System Requirements

Windows 95, 98, and ME are Win 4.x and are no longer supported by Microsoft. ME, in various polls of Windows users, is considered the worst operating system of all time. Windows XP and 2000 are Win 5.x.

It would be better to answer the question without denigrating Vista (and its users by association).

Welcome, wedgeantilles. I've been running Vista for two years and it has many positive attributes.

Vester, i have no clue what you're on about "denigration of Vista users by association"? If looking for argument hit the red icon, right hand bottom.

Have a nice day.

Re: Windows Vista and System Requirements

Regarding the issue raised in this thread, I have asked the technical staff to update the System Requirements Help entry.

I can add that Vista is based on 6.x kernel version, so there can have some differences.

I don't want to come into a debate about the worth or the best OS. I have works with different OS like Linux, Mac OS and Windows and I will say that each OS has its good and not so good things.

Re: Windows Vista and System Requirements

The WCG Admin responded to my request that we are waiting unti BOINC 5.10 to be deployed before Vista is listed as one of the supported platforms. Even though it has not been officially listed, I have been running fine on Vista myself with BOINC 5.8.16 for some time now with no problems.
