Device installations

Hi, just a simple error I've noticed: when I reinstalled WCG on my computer and typed in the same device name, it didn't overwrite/continue the existing device. It instead created a new device with the exact same name. Now, in my stats page, I am listed as having 1 more device than I actually do have.

Not really a huge problem or anything, but I was just thinking that if this usually happens with reinstallations, the global device number isn't actually quite correct. That is all :)

cool Re: Device installations

Yes, each installation produces a unique device. This actually causes a number of different effects. The number of 'current' devices is smaller than the total number of devices installed and there are duplicate device names. There are fixes of various sorts scheduled for February and March, but I do not know the exact roadmap.

Anyway, the main point is that work is underway to correct these problems. Keep an eye on the 'Member News' to keep track of the bug fixes as they get made.

Re: Device installations

Before posting a new thread about the same subject, I thought I'd browse the board - and I found this thread.

It would be great if the fixes you're talking about included a way to report that a device installation is dead forever.
I'd have to do this for three devices I had to kill so that UDMon (which someone here told me about) could keep working after a WU aborted. Indeed, the agent blocks itself until it could communicate with the server. If I don't kill the aborted cache slot - and therefore the corresponding device installation, sooner or later (either immediately if this happens during the night or later, when the WU I switched to is finished), the agent will get stuck with the "trap" (I guess) WU #687 which replaced the aborted WU.

UDMon is definitely a great tool, which suits very well to computers that cannot connect to Internet for several days, like mine.
