Re: Speed Test The Global Broadband Speed Test

Actually, the cost compared to other Internet providers, including DSL, isn't that great. I have bundled services with Comcast, which includes digital cable, digital voice (VoIP), cable TV, including digital cable, and lease the digital cable box and modem. I think the cable probably runs about $35.00 a month.

My speed went WAY up when I signed up for VoIP. They replaced my old SurfBoard modem with a telephone and cable modem by Ardis (looks neat -- looks like a dark brown monolith with lights all down the front).

Actually, a lot of the speed I think, comes from "Power Boost", which increases speed during the first part of a download, and then backs off so that you don't "suck all the bandwidth from your neighborhood". And, I'm not sure if it helps or not, but the neighborhood junction box is in my backyard. BTW, I think my service is advertised at only 6Mbps.

Upload speed are limited by my ISP, because the ToS forbids running your own server.
