Process Explorer v15.04

Ever wondered which program has a particular file or directory open? Now you can find out. Process Explorer shows you information about which handles and DLLs processes have opened or loaded.

Re: Computers tips

If you’re looking for a quick way to save a webpage for offline viewing, then I suggest checking out PDFmyURL and put the address of the site you want to save in the box

Now hit the nifty-looking “P” icon off to the right, let the site do its work, and when the download window pops up save it

One bit of information, though – this method doesn’t save a whole website, just whatever page is at the address you put in, so you’ll need to put in the specific address for each Page you want to convert

Re: Computers tips

Here are two programs that have been useful for me.

SyncToy 2.1 is a free Microsoft Windows application that synchronizes files and folders between locations. Typical uses include sharing files, such as photos, with other computers and creating backup copies of files and folders.

I use SyncToy to sync 3 PCs. Syncing Windows 7 with XP is more complex than w7 to w7 as the path names for data are different. I do not use it to back up applications, but instead use it to retain copies of Outlook, My Documents, Quicken, music, pictures, and videos. I have a hot backup PC in case my new desktop fails (the old desktop has failed in the past).

For backups I use Macrium Reflect free. It does a good job of creating an image, which can be used to restore a drive or by mounting the image as a drive you can retrieve individual files. This is also an excellent tool to recover from a virus. I spent a day trying to remove a nasty virus and was unsuccessful. I reloaded the image and within minutes I was up and running virus free.

Re: Computers tips

thanks

Windows 7 has quite a few neat tricks up its sleeve

So, open up a program (just about any one will do), and hold your Windows key ( the Windows key is the one located between your Ctrl and Alt keys on your keyboard and has the Windows logo emblazoned on it).

Hold your Windows key and press one of the direction arrows on your keyboard.

Windows Key + Left Arrow – Snaps the current window towards the left side of the screen.Windows Key + Right Arrow – Snaps the current window towards the right side of the screen.

Windows Key + Up – Maximizes the current Window.

Windows Key + Down – Send the current Window to a compact state. Press again to minimize. Note: Once the window is minimized, you need to click on it again if you want to access it.
Remember: This is only for Windows 7 users. Everyone else is just going to have to use their mouse...

Re: Computers tips

If This, Then That" is a new website that walks you through simple online tasks to do your bidding. Within a minute, I created a small "recipe" (their term) that searches my local Craigslist for a particular item, then emails me when/if it shows up. Great idea! Here are some pre-made recipes to give you an idea of the power of this site:

And then start "rolling your own" here:
